President Luong Cuong meets with former senior Lao leaders

(Chinhphu.vn) - Within the framework of his State visit to Laos, on the morning of April 25, President Luong Cuong met with former General Secretaries and former Presidents of Laos, including Comrade Bounnhang Vorachith and Comrade Choummaly Sayasone.

President Luong Cuong expressed his pleasure to meet with comrades, close friends of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, and senior Lao leaders who have made great contributions to fostering and strengthening the great friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos in various positions; and conveyed to former senior leaders of the Lao Party and State the greetings and New Year greetings of Bunpimay from General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man .

At the meetings, President Luong Cuong informed about the significance of this State visit to Laos, affirming that the Vietnam-Laos relationship is a priceless asset, of vital significance to the revolutionary cause of the two countries.

President Luong Cuong emphasized that Vietnam always appreciates the valuable contributions of former Lao leaders to the special Vietnam-Laos relationship and hopes that with their prestige and extensive experience, former Lao leaders will continue to support and contribute ideas to further strengthening and deepening the cooperative relationship between the two Parties and two countries.

The former Lao high-ranking leaders expressed their joy at meeting President Luong Cuong again in his new position; conveyed their sincere thanks and warm regards to General Secretary To Lam and other high-ranking leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam; congratulated Vietnam on its great achievements in recent times, affirmed Vietnam's increasingly enhanced role and position in the international arena; and believed that the special solidarity between the two Parties, two States and peoples of the two countries will continue to be strengthened and bear fruit in the coming time.

The former Lao high-ranking leaders especially welcomed the program "Friendship Exchange: Vietnam - Laos, our two countries, the love is deeper than the Red River - Mekong River" on the occasion of this visit; emphasizing that this is a meaningful activity to show gratitude to Lao comrades who have stood shoulder to shoulder with Vietnamese comrades, and to recall the heroic memories of the two peoples in the struggle for independence and national defense in the past as well as in the cause of national construction and development at present.

The leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to pay attention to educating and propagating to the people of the two countries, especially the young generation, about the tradition of great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, and continuing to stand side by side and coordinate closely to gain even greater victories.
