Thematic monitoring of the implementation of domestic solid waste classification in Vinh Bao district

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of June 6, the City People's Council's Supervisory Delegation led by Mr. Pham Van Khanh, Head of the City People's Council's Urban Committee, conducted a thematic supervision of the implementation of source-based solid waste classification in the city for the People's Committee of Vinh Bao district. Also attending were representatives of relevant departments and units.

According to the report of Vinh Bao District People's Committee, the total amount of domestic solid waste generated in the district is about 54,480.5 tons/year (151 tons/day); of which organic waste accounts for about 45 - 50%, recyclable inorganic waste accounts for about 8 - 16%, and the remaining waste accounts for about 34 - 47%. With the active participation of sectors, localities, and units, in recent times, the work of classifying domestic solid waste at source in the district has had many positive changes, initially achieving many encouraging results. The spirit, awareness, and responsibility of all levels, sectors, agencies, units, and people for the work of classifying domestic solid waste at source have been raised; the movement of classifying domestic solid waste in communes and towns has been and is being focused on; models of classifying domestic solid waste at source have been formed and replicated. Up to now, the number of households classifying solid waste at source in the district has reached 70.4%...

The delegation conducted a field survey at some households in Tan Hung commune.

However, the maintenance of the model for some households is not sustainable, the means of collection, transportation, and treatment infrastructure have not been invested synchronously, there is no professional collection service unit, the price of collection and transportation of domestic solid waste is still low. Vinh Bao district proposed that the city pay attention to supporting resources for the work of classifying, collecting, transporting and treating domestic waste in the locality; adjusting the service fees for collection and transportation of domestic waste to ensure that it is suitable to reality; speeding up the progress of implementing the construction of concentrated solid waste treatment areas in the area with advanced, modern, and environmentally friendly technology to replace temporary landfills in the area...

Through a field survey of some households in Tan Hung commune, listening to the reports and opinions of the members of the Supervisory Delegation, Comrade Pham Van Khanh, Head of the Urban Committee of the City People's Council, acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Vinh Bao district in implementing the work of classifying domestic solid waste at source, which has had positive changes and achieved results. At the same time, he requested the district to continue to promote propaganda work to raise people's awareness; mobilize the entire political system to participate; strengthen the inspection and supervision of the classification of waste by people at source and the collection, transportation and treatment of domestic solid waste; continue to effectively implement models of classifying waste at source to localities and people; pay attention to investing in infrastructure for waste treatment after classification... Regarding the recommendations and proposals of the district, the Supervisory Delegation received and synthesized them into a general report, submitted to the City People's Council./.
