Cooperation in many fields
To date, Thai Nguyen province has 4 localities that have signed cooperation agreements with partners in Gyeongsangbuk-do province, including: Dinh Hoa District People's Committee with Cheongdo District Government (2014); Song Cong City People's Committee with Mungyeong City Government (2018, in the fields of: Economy , trade, culture, tourism, science, education, agriculture); Pho Yen City People's Committee with Chilgok District Government (2023); Thai Nguyen City People's Committee with Busanjin District Government, Busan City (2023).
In addition, Dai Tu District People's Committee also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with Vatech Networks Group, Korea (2024).

At the department, agency and sector level, many outstanding cooperation activities between Thai Nguyen province and Gyeongsangbuk-do have also been implemented. Specifically, Thai Nguyen Provincial Police signed a cooperation agreement with Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Police Department (2013); Department of Education and Training and Thai Nguyen University of Education signed a cooperation agreement with Daegu National University of Education, Korea (2022); Department of Natural Resources and Environment (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment) cooperated with the Korea Testing and Research Institute (KTR) - 2024; Department of Planning and Investment (now the Department of Finance) cooperated with Samsung E&A Co., Ltd. (2024) ...

Each area of cooperation between Thai Nguyen and the neighboring province has achieved many results that can be “measured”. That is, Daegu National University of Education (Korea) in collaboration with the Thai Nguyen Department of Education and Training and Thai Nguyen University of Education organized 5 training courses for primary school teachers in Thai Nguyen province.
Along with that, many units and schools of the two localities have signed memorandums of understanding and international agreements such as: Tan Thinh Secondary School, Gia Sang Primary and Secondary School 915, Chu Van An Secondary School, Tan Thanh Secondary School and Nha Trang Secondary School (Thai Nguyen City) have had twinning agreements with schools of the neighboring province.
To implement the cooperation, the province's schools have sent many delegations of officials, teachers and students to study and participate in conferences and seminars in Korea; and welcomed delegations from other provinces to exchange knowledge.
In the field of health, within the framework of the visit and work in Thai Nguyen of the Delegation of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province (November 2014), Thai Nguyen International Hospital signed a memorandum of cooperation commitment with Gumi Gangdong Hospital. The cooperation program aims to promote exchange, learning, technology transfer and specialized training in health, especially cosmetic surgery and spinal surgery.
The two sides also agreed to carry out activities of exchanging medical delegations, organizing seminars, sharing experiences in hospital management and medical examination and treatment. This is the first step in expanding medical cooperation between the two provinces, contributing to strengthening ties and improving the quality of medical services in the locality...

Thai Nguyen is a production "stronghold" of major investors from Korea such as: Samsung Group, Dongwha Group, Hansol Electronics Company... Among the more than 110 Korean projects being implemented in Thai Nguyen, many businesses come from Gyeongsangbuk-do province. |
Saemaul New Village - a symbol of cooperation
In 2007, within the scope of the New Rural Development Program in the form of New Village (Saemaul Un dong) in La Bang Commune, Dai Tu District, the SGF Foundation and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province carried out many practical activities. In 2007, volunteers from the neighboring province helped repair the Commune Health Station (total investment value of 45,000 USD); participated in cultural and artistic exchanges and provided medical examination and treatment for the people.
In 2008, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province Volunteer Group supported the repair of La Bang Elementary School (with a funding of 100,000 USD) and presented the school with 16 sets of computers.

In the following years, delegations of officials and volunteers from the neighboring province continued to come to La Bang commune to support the locality in repairing and upgrading public works, power lines, canals; cultural and artistic exchanges, and organizing many extracurricular activities for primary school students...

In 2017, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province and the SGF signed a memorandum of understanding on implementing the activities of the Saemaul New Village Project (Thai Nguyen is the first locality in the country to implement this Project), replicating the model in La Bang commune to other localities: Xom To, Phuong Tien commune (Dinh Hoa); Phu Nam 1 hamlet, Phu Do commune (Phu Luong); Phu Ninh hamlet, Phu Dinh commune (Dinh Hoa) and Tien Tien hamlet, Binh Son commune (Song Cong city).
One of the symbols of cooperation activities, demonstrating the friendly relationship between Thai Nguyen province and Gyeongsangbuk-do province is the Saemaul New Village movement. Villages built by the friendship of the two countries have created new values for the countryside in the period of accelerated industrialization and modernization. According to the agreement between the two parties, activities in the Saemaul New Village Project focus on four categories: Local governance, with a focus on establishing and developing cooperatives; periodic training in Korea for local officials and cooperative members; improving infrastructure and enhancing the living environment (building new and renovating cultural houses, rural roads, canals, and electricity infrastructure); supporting the improvement of living standards and increasing income for people.

With the active and practical support of the province and the SGF Fund, up to now, all hamlets implementing the Saemaul New Village model in Thai Nguyen province have become models of livable countryside. Mr. Duong Van Vuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of La Bang commune, said: The model has helped the appearance of the local rural infrastructure change positively, and people's awareness has clearly changed. This is an important factor helping La Bang become one of the leading localities in Dai Tu district in building new rural areas...

20 years - not a long journey but has shown many practical results in the cooperative relationship between Thai Nguyen province and Gyeongsangbuk-do province. In the future, the relationship between the two localities still has a lot of potential to develop and go deeper. That is expanding cooperation in developing high-tech agriculture, deep processing of agricultural products; developing the carbon credit market; developing healthcare, education, culture, tourism; connecting businesses on both sides; training workers; especially replicating the Saemaul New Village model to disadvantaged localities of the province.
It can be said that the friendly relationship between Thai Nguyen province and Gyeongsangbuk-do province not only brings practical benefits to the people of the two localities, but also contributes significantly to promoting the good relationship between the two countries, and to Vietnam's policy of deep international integration.
