Yesterday afternoon, the Government Portal organized a discussion on "Vietnam's Socio -Economic Situation 2021-2025: Resilience and Breakthrough" to summarize the most important, comprehensive, and impressive features of the socio-economic situation over the past 5 years.
Turn challenges into opportunities
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi said that Vietnam has made significant progress despite the global challenges it faces.
“I think Vietnam has been able to turn some crises and challenges into opportunities for itself,” said Ms. Ramla Khalidi.

According to her, a highlight of the achievements is the economic growth of more than 7% during this period. Another achievement that UNDP particularly noted is the high and continuing improvement in the Human Development Index (HDI).
In UNDP's view, what is more impressive is the strong leadership and strategic vision that have helped Vietnam effectively implement economic development policies.
“We are entering a new era, focusing on innovation, comprehensive transformation towards a circular, green and inclusive economy. I very much welcome Vietnam’s vision for sustainable development. We need to continue to put that element at the center,” she said.
Participating online from Singapore, Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Khuong, lecturer at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore), commented that Vietnam has gone through a special period, with changes occurring in all fields that no one could have predicted.
From the Covid-19 pandemic to global trade fluctuations, in a difficult and complicated context, Vietnam has demonstrated extraordinary strength and affirmed its ability to make a strong breakthrough in the coming time.
The direction and administration of the Party Central Committee, the Government and the Prime Minister have shown a very high level of consistency.

“Working with many sectors, localities and businesses in recent times, I have found that the most important achievement is to create a strong atmosphere, affirming that there is no challenge that the Vietnamese people cannot overcome, no difficulty that makes our people retreat and no noble goal that Vietnam cannot reach,” Mr. Khuong assessed.
Professor Vu Minh Khuong emphasized the Government 's efforts with three Qs. One is Courage; two is Determination, once done, done thoroughly; three is Selflessness.
“These three precious qualities make me truly grateful and proud to share with international friends that we have a strong leadership team, worthy of the nation's development in this period,” said Mr. Khuong.
Work hard, not just until you're done, work for the people, not for yourself.
Dr. Bui Sy Loi, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society, affirmed that the 2021-2025 term is a very special term, as the name of the discussion "resistance and breakthrough".
“The most spectacular point is that we have correctly applied the viewpoints and policies of the Party and State, which is economic development associated with social progress and equity. This is one of two factors that promote each other for development,” Mr. Loi analyzed.
According to him, during the 2021-2025 term, the Government has directed very strongly and effectively the improvement of social welfare for all people, ensuring that all people have access to and enjoy quality basic social services, specifically health care, education, housing, clean water and environmental sanitation. This is the correct application of the spirit of Resolution 42 of the Party Central Committee.
When summarizing Resolution 12 and continuing to issue Resolution 42 on social policy, the Party and State raised the issue of shifting from minimum basic social services to minimum basic social services with increasingly higher quality. This is a qualitative change.
"It can be said that the application of the viewpoint of economic development associated with social progress of our Party and State has been clearly and prominently demonstrated in the 2021-2025 term," Mr. Loi commented.

Regarding the double-digit growth orientation, according to him, it is a major goal of the Party and State, but it is only sustainable when supported by a solid social foundation.
He reiterated the orientation in the Party Congress Document that rapid growth must be linked with inclusive development and must be people-centered, ensuring progress and social equity in every policy. The inevitable trend of the new era is green, creative and humane growth, in which the quality of human resources, digital technology and digital society determine the resilience of an economy.
Mr. Loi expressed his hope that the Government would continue to shift its mindset from management to creation and development. This is one of the Government's most prominent directives in the 2021-2025 term.
"I hope the Prime Minister continues to direct in the most prominent direction of the past term, which is to do his best, not until he runs out of time, to work for the people, not for himself," said Mr. Bui Sy Loi.
He believes that if we continue with this goal, we will be able to awaken the nation's strength and the possibility of achieving the double-digit growth target is feasible.
