Math exam for 10th graders in Ho Chi Minh City has never had a high score.

Math is one of the three subjects in the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City, along with Literature and Foreign Language. Ho Chi Minh City started to innovate the Math exam in 2015, with practical application questions - this is close to the 2018 GeneralEducation Program. However, for the same number of years, the Math score in the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City is not high, although it is considered suitable for the admission goal of recruiting good students to top schools.

The Math scores for the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 show a clear differentiation. Of the more than 98,400 candidates taking the exam, over 55,000 had a Math score below 5, including 123 candidates with a score of 0.25; 142 candidates with a score of 0.5 and 188 candidates with only 0.75 points, 256 candidates with 1 point. Only 49 candidates scored 10 points in Math; 31 candidates scored 9.75 points; 132 candidates scored 9.5 points; 123 candidates scored 9.25 points; 276 candidates scored 9 points.

In 2023, out of 95,952 candidates taking the Math exam, 44,126 candidates scored below 5, of which 809 scored below 1. In 2022, out of 92,074 candidates taking the Math exam, 41,775 scored below 5.

Thus, in previous years, about 50% of 10th grade candidates in Ho Chi Minh City had Math scores below 5.

What will the 2025 math problem be like?

The 10th grade math entrance exam will include the following knowledge streams: Geometry and measurement; numbers and algebra; statistics and probability.

The test content aims to assess mathematical abilities: Thinking and reasoning; problem solving; modeling. The test requires students to know how to apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems; encourages self-study and creativity, avoiding the situation of learning by heart and rote. The test content helps students orient themselves to some necessary knowledge and skills when entering high school.

The exam structure is as follows:

Lesson 1. (1.5 points) Given the function y = ax2

a) Draw the graph (P) of the above function.

b) Find the points belonging to (P) that satisfy the given conditions.

Lesson 2. (1 point) Given the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0

a) Find the condition for the equation to have a solution.

b) Applying Viete's formula, calculate the value of the expression related to the solutions.

Lesson 3. (1.5 points) Practical math problems related to probability and statistics.

Lesson 4. (1 point)

a) Write expression A representing a certain quantity x in a real-life problem.

b) Find the value of x so that A satisfies a certain condition.

Lesson 5. (1 point) Practical math problems related to geometry:

Perimeter, area of triangle, quadrilateral, arc length, circumference of circle, area of circle, circular sector, piece of chalk, scarf... Lateral area, total area, volume of solids in reality...

Lesson 6. (1 point) Practical problems related to equations, inequalities, and systems of first-degree equations with two variables.

Lesson 7. (3 points) Plane geometry problem consists of 3 questions.

a) Prove that 4 points lie on a circle, the elements are parallel, perpendicular, equal...

b) Prove that the formula, elements are equal, collinear, concurrent...

c) Calculate length, perimeter, area, angle measurements...

How to do Math test in 2025?

Mr. Lam Vu Cong Chinh, Math Teacher (Nguyen Du High School) said that in the 10th grade Math exam in Ho Chi Minh City, questions related to practical factors account for a lot. This year is the first year of applying the 2018 General Education Program for 9th grade students. Therefore, there are a few notes for students when solving practical math questions in the exam. Specifically:

Read the question carefully, identify the important elements and requirements of the question.

Determine the relationship between the quantities in the problem.

Convert real-life problems into mathematical problems by setting unknowns, representing quantities with formulas, creating equations or systems of equations appropriate to the problem...

Apply the methods and mathematical formulas you have learned to find the solution. Then check the results to ensure their validity.

According to Mr. Chinh, the 10th grade math exam in Ho Chi Minh City is in essay form, so with familiar questions, it is necessary to present carefully, fully, with arguments, explanations, and perform the steps of drawing graphs as instructed by the teacher.

Mr. Chinh acknowledged that the structure of the 10th grade illustrative exam in 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City is not much different from the exam questions of previous years. Therefore, students can refer to the source of 10th grade exam questions in Ho Chi Minh City in previous years to grasp the structure and knowledge when entering the exam room.
