Teachers may have their contracts terminated if they receive gifts and money on November 20th.

(Dan Tri) - A private school in Dak Lak has issued a notice prohibiting teachers from accepting money or gifts from parents or students. Violators will be disciplined and may even have their employment contracts terminated.

Recently, a private inter-level school in Dak Lak announced that it will not accept gifts or money from the parent association, parents, and students on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2024).

According to the announcement, with the established regulations, the school hopes that parents will not bother giving gifts to teachers on holidays.

The school requests that all homeroom teachers inform parents and students not to give gifts or money in any form to teachers, staff, and school management team.

It is strictly forbidden for managers and teachers to receive flowers, gifts, or money from parents or students in any form.

Teachers and departments can receive congratulatory flowers on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, from the class's Parents' Association. To prevent waste, the school encourages each class to only arrange a small flower basket at the teacher's desk for general congratulation.

"The school will strictly handle any teacher who violates the above regulations. Depending on the severity, the school will take disciplinary measures (the highest level is termination of the employment contract)," the school's announcement stated.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporters, the school leaders confirmed that the contents of this notice are part of the school's professional regulations. However, every year on November 20, the school has to remind teachers and staff of this notice.

The school leader further explained that receiving too many flowers would be wasteful, so only flowers could be received collectively by the class; not all parents could afford to give gifts, and accepting them would cause comparisons among students.

"When a parent gives a gift to a teacher, other parents are afraid that if they don't give it, the teachers will be biased towards other people. Because theeducational environment must be fair to all students, our school strictly does not accept it, so as not to cause parents to worry," the school leader shared.

According to the school leader, gratitude to teachers only requires sincere thanks, not gifts or money.

"For me personally, parents need to cooperate with the school in educating students, not leaving everything to the school is also a very profound way to show gratitude," he added.

The ban on teachers receiving gifts and money on November 20th has caused controversy among the public.

Many parents support the policy of not giving gifts to teachers to create fairness for all students. On the contrary, many parents believe that schools should not be too rigid because giving gifts shows the good tradition of "respecting teachers" from the past to the present and should not use the word "forbidden" because it will cause offense and hurt teachers.
