Teachers advise on skills to do well in the Literature exam for grade 10

According to teachers, the Literature exam for the 10th grade entrance exam of the 2018 general education program not only assesses knowledge but also focuses on students' presentation skills and coherent thinking.

To achieve the best results, according to Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung, a Literature teacher of the HOCMAIEducation System, candidates need to pay attention to some key points about: time allocation, identifying and analyzing the questions, checking the work, etc. Applying these notes well will help students improve their test-taking skills and confidently conquer the Literature test in the 10th grade entrance exam with the best results.

Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung said that the presentation factor plays an important role in the candidate's exam. A short, coherent, clean essay, without spelling mistakes, using basic words or sentences will create a good impression and avoid losing points.

Reasonable time allocation is essential. With 120 minutes, candidates should spend about 25-30 minutes on the Reading Comprehension section (4 points) to read the text carefully and answer fully. The Essay Writing section (2 points) should also take 25-30 minutes. Finally, prioritize 55-60 minutes for the Essay Writing section (4 points) to develop in detail and thoughtfully.

Regarding the skill of identifying and analyzing the topic , before starting to do the test, candidates need to read the topic carefully, paying special attention to important keywords. These keywords provide information about the operational requirements (state, explain, analyze, feel, present...), the form (paragraph or essay, how much capacity), and the subject and scope of the question. Determining the correct focus of the topic will help you stay on track and avoid going off topic.

In addition, candidates must comply with the requirements on the length (number of words) of paragraphs and essays. Although this number is only relative, it should only fluctuate within an allowable range. Candidates must remember to present the essay to the point, answer concisely and express themselves clearly.

After completing your essay, don't forget to check it again for errors , especially presentation errors. If you find any mistakes, add them at the end of your essay, clearly stating which sentence or section you want to add, instead of writing over an existing section.

Teachers also give specific notes for each type of exercise.

For Reading comprehension questions : You need to read the reading text carefully, and identify the type/genre of the text, main content and outstanding formal features.

Reading comprehension questions should be answered briefly, perhaps in bullet points, but should be complete.

There will be questions related to Vietnamese Practice knowledge (accounting for about 1-1.5 points), especially knowledge about rhetorical devices. Systematize this knowledge in the secondary school years.

Questions about the form and content of the text need to closely follow the genre characteristics and be based on each specific text to answer accurately.

Application questions (usually the last question) require candidates to state their personal opinions and provide convincing reasons or evidence to explain that opinion.

For the essay writing section : Clearly identify the requirements for the format of the paragraph or essay, length limit, analysis or perception, etc.

Identify the correct type of essay: Social essay about an opinion or problem that needs to be solved, or literary essay about a topic, character, image, artistic feature, or a work/excerpt.

Clearly present your opinion on the topic of discussion (literary or social), providing appropriate arguments and evidence to clarify. Avoid paraphrasing or summarizing the plot.

A literary essay needs to clarify both the content and artistic aspects of the work, with the level of emphasis depending on the requirements of the topic.

Social essays must have specific evidence, lessons/solutions presented must be specific, feasible, appropriate, avoid general presentation or empty appeals.

You should quickly outline the ideas on the draft before writing the complete article.
