Honda has just launched the Honda 0 α at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This is a prototype of the next generation electric vehicle, which will be on display at Honda's booth throughout the event. The Honda 0 α is the latest member of the Honda 0 Series electric vehicle line, a new generation of electric vehicles introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025. Following the previous Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV, this model will serve as the "pioneer" in the company's product line. The 0 α was developed as a compact SUV that blends perfectly with both urban and natural environments, supporting users in a variety of daily usage scenarios.
According to Honda, the model embodies the development concept of the 0 Series: "thin, light, and smart." This philosophy represents Honda's effort to move away from the increasing size and weight of many modern electric vehicles, and instead pursue vehicles that are more efficient, smarter, and offer better driving pleasure. The Honda 0α's design is based on a "slim" philosophy, emphasizing the overall height of the vehicle without reducing ground clearance. This results in a cabin that is slim on the outside but still spacious and comfortable on the inside. The spacious stance conveys stability and agility, while maintaining the standard proportions of a modern SUV. The exterior design follows the minimalist and elegant style of the Honda 0 Series, combining smooth surfaces with integrated lighting technology. At the front, the previously separate details such as the headlights, charging cover and illuminated Honda logo are merged into a single screen. Meanwhile, at the rear, a U-shaped light design connects the taillights, turn signals and reverse lights, highlighting the width of the vehicle and creating a unified, sophisticated look.
The Honda 0 α joins the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV range, launched in January. The Saloon is the flagship model of the range, with a low, aerodynamic design and a focus on advanced aerodynamics, driving dynamics and interior comfort. In contrast, the 0 SUV is designed as a rugged, versatile vehicle, combining a strong, sporty appearance with a refined cabin, aimed at drivers seeking both utility and sophistication. The Honda 0 Series marks a complete overhaul of the Japanese automaker's electric vehicle strategy. It is built on a completely new EV platform and features the company's proprietary ASIMO OS, a next-generation software system that supports driver assistance, connectivity, and intelligent energy management. The number “0” represents Honda’s return to the starting point, a completely new approach to electric vehicle development aimed at eliminating excess weight, complexity and cost. The goal is to deliver vehicles that are simple, efficient and fun to drive, while supporting Honda’s broader mission of achieving carbon neutrality across all products and operations by 2050.
The production version of the Honda 0 α is scheduled to launch globally in 2027, with initial markets including Japan and India. By expanding the 0 Series lineup with this new model, Honda aims to make next-generation electric vehicles more accessible to a wider audience. Through the Honda 0 α, the company aims to combine design, technology and practicality in a form that reflects its vision for the future of sustainable mobility.
