The event was organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2024).

Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the State Archives and Records Department Nguyen Thi Nga said: "Today's event is extremely important, demonstrating the responsibility and role of the archives agency in the task of publishing and promoting the value of archival documents to create conditions for the general public to access important, authentic, and reliable historical sources about a very important event in the capital city. Through these documents, the public will be able to relive the glorious moments, the historical times when our nation persistently fought to regain independence, as well as feel the joyful moments of the people of the capital city when they for the first time took control of their own destiny."

According to Tran Viet Hoa, Director of the National Archives Center III: "Currently, the center is storing and preserving thousands of meters of documents related to the events of October 10, 1954. The center manages unique (original) documents of permanent value from central agencies such as the National Assembly , the Government, and ministries and departments. Looking at the documents containing directives from the Party, the Government, and central agencies, as well as the implementation of those directives by ministries and departments, we can affirm that we are the unit managing the largest quantity of documents among those storing documents and images related to October 10, 1954."

"Therefore, stemming from that unique characteristic and the responsibility of those working in archives to always want the value of documents to be realized, in recent years, the National Archives Center III has organized many activities to celebrate the Liberation Day of Hanoi. Continuing the success of activities in previous years, the event "Introducing national archival documents on the takeover of Hanoi" is a profound gift of gratitude to the soldiers, cadres, and employees who dedicated themselves to the Liberation Day of Hanoi. At the same time, the event also contributes to educating about revolutionary traditions, national history, and the heroic history of Hanoi for today's generations, thereby contributing to building a more prosperous, civilized, and modern Hanoi," said Ms. Tran Viet Hoa.
The event featured nearly 200 original images and archival documents currently preserved at the National Archives Center III from various archives, including: the National Assembly, the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance , the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, the Ministry of Agriculture, photographer Nguyen Ba Khoan, photo collector Dang Tich, Professor Hoang Minh Giam, musician Van Cao, musician Nguyen Duc Toan, musician Huy Du, and others.


Some documents were displayed at the national archives presentation on the takeover of the capital.
These documents serve as evidence to recreate the glorious historical moments of the nation and the capital city since the signing of the Geneva Agreement in 1954. Some of the documents presented include: the program, plan, and personnel for the takeover of Hanoi, including documents on the establishment of the Hanoi Administrative Committee; Official Letter No. 236-TTg dated July 27, 1954, from the Prime Minister's Office on the plan to guide and direct the restoration of old towns and cities; Official Letter No. 1678 ZYO/3 dated August 20, 1954, from the Ministry of Health on sending volunteer youth to take over; and the Ministry of Finance's plan for the takeover of Hanoi in 1954…
In addition, there are several representative reports and images such as: a report on the reception of our troops and government on October 10, 1954; the troops taking over the Hanoi Flagpole; the radiant women of the capital welcoming the liberation army; and the sacred flag-raising ceremony on the afternoon of October 10, 1954…

At the event, the organizers also introduced documents by musicians whose records are archived at the National Archives Center III, such as Van Cao, Huy Du, and Nguyen Duc Toan, featuring songs about Hanoi: "Marching Towards Hanoi," "Will Return to the Capital," "Hanoi, the Pink Heart," etc. Through this, viewers can see a Hanoi that is both poetic and heroic.
The archival documents presented at the National Archives Center III contain reliable information about the process of our army and people liberating and taking over the capital, affirming the close guidance, close adherence to the people, reliance on the people for operations, and the indomitable spirit of the army and people of Hanoi.

The event attracted a large number of participants.
During the presentation of national archives documents on the takeover of the capital, guests who were historical witnesses, including Colonel Duong Niet and photographer Trinh Hai, shared their emotional memories of that historic moment; they also donated some valuable photographs and mementos to the National Archives Center III.
These documents and images will continue to be displayed at the exhibition "Hanoi – Memories of the Days of Takeover," scheduled to open on October 2, 2024, at the Exhibition House, 61 Trang Tien Street, Hanoi, organized by the National Archives Center III in collaboration with the Information Center of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports.
