As planned, the 2025 Buckwheat Flower Festival will officially open on the evening of November 29, lasting until the end of December. This is a unique festival, bearing the cultural imprint of ethnic minorities, and is an important event to promote the image of the land and people of the highlands to tourists.

Coming to the festival, visitors can not only admire the beauty of buckwheat flowers but also experience many activities in the communes of the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark.

Every festival season, there will be a lot of tourists flocking to tourist areas and spots on the Dong Van stone plateau. The large number of visitors leads to pressure in environmental management, especially the collection and treatment of waste generated at tourist spots, rest stops, restaurants and accommodations.

In order to ensure the festival takes place safely, cleanly, and creates a good impression on visitors, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has issued a document requesting and guiding departments, branches, and localities to proactively implement solutions to handle waste during the festival.

The buckwheat flower festival attracts many tourists to the Dong Van stone plateau.

Accordingly, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is assigned to coordinate with event organizers, travel companies and tourist areas and spots to propagate and mobilize tourists to join hands in keeping the environment clean. Each tourist is instructed to throw trash in the right place, limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic items, and not litter in public places, rest stops and relic sites.

Travel agencies also committed to incorporating "green tourism, responsible tourism" into tour programs, contributing to spreading the spirit of civilized behavior among tourists.

Along with that, the communes in the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark and Ha Giang 1 and Ha Giang 2 wards have also proactively arranged resources and mobilized social investment to invest in additional waste collection equipment in public areas such as squares, streets, scenic spots and boat piers.

Lung Cam cultural village, Sa Phin commune, Tuyen Quang province is always clean and beautiful, creating a good impression in the hearts of tourists.

Localities have increased their cleaning staff and regularly collected waste, especially at places with high tourist concentrations such as Lung Cu national flagpole; Lo Lo Chai cultural tourism village; Vuong family house; Pao's house; Dong Van ancient town; Ma Pi Leng pass; Nho Que river boat station... All are aimed at ensuring the environment is always clean and beautiful, creating a friendly space.

To effectively manage the environment, localities will complete the arrangement of human resources and means for waste collection and treatment; build public sanitation facilities and on-site wastewater treatment facilities; and promulgate and post regulations on environmental sanitation in public places before November 22.

Not only with the participation of state management agencies, the environmental cleaning movement also received positive response from mass organizations and communities.

Communes, villages, and hamlets in the festival area are launching a general environmental cleaning campaign, in conjunction with the organization of the National Great Unity Day. Many households living around tourist attractions and cultural tourism villages have voluntarily swept, collected trash, and renovated their houses, village roads, and alleys, contributing to creating a spacious, clean appearance, ready to welcome guests.

Mr. Ma Doan Khanh, Vice Chairman of Lung Cu Commune People's Committee, said that during the festival season, the number of visitors to the locality is very large, especially at Lung Cu National Flagpole and Lo Lo Chai Cultural Village. To serve tourists attentively, the commune has developed a specific plan from environmental sanitation, ensuring security and order, to food safety. The commune also mobilized union members to participate in cleaning and collecting garbage every day, ensuring that no garbage is left behind after each ceremony or community activity.

Tourist areas, tourist attractions, and cultural tourism villages in the province are also urgently implementing environmental sanitation activities, landscape beautification, and preparing facilities to serve tourists. Many accommodation establishments, restaurants, and homestays have classified waste, arranged two-compartment trash cans, and used environmentally friendly products instead of disposable plastic items.
