"I am very excited about this tournament and look forward to the day I step onto Tan Son Nhat golf course," golfer Nguyen Van Thong, one of 218 golfers participating in Tien Phong Golf Championship - Non song mot doi, told Tien Phong newspaper reporters before the tournament.
In excitement, the CEO of PGA Phan Thiet shared: "At the age of U60, I don't know if I can compete for the highest position with other golfers, but I still decided to register. And not only me, my daughter will also participate. After a quarter of a century of golf, looking back, golfer Nguyen Van Thong said that this sport has given him so much. Therefore, he is always ready to join hands to promote the movement, to develop Vietnamese golf. Going to Tien Phong Golf Championship - Non song mot doi is also a way.

"I know that Tien Phong newspaper has organized many tournaments, such as the National Golf Championship or Tien Phong Golf Championship - For Young Vietnamese Talents, but they are all in the Northern region," golfer Nguyen Van Thong said. "I am very happy that Tien Phong Golf Championship - Non song mot doi is organized in Ho Chi Minh City. Having another golf tournament is another opportunity for golfers to learn, compete and show their talents, thereby discovering promising golfers who can help Vietnamese golf reach new heights in the future."
According to golfer Nguyen Van Thong, Vietnamese golf is currently developing strongly and creating a generation of talented young golfers. Not only achieving impressive results domestically, people like Le Khanh Hung and Nguyen Anh Minh also help Vietnamese golf make its mark on the international stage.
"With the attention and investment of the Vietnam Golf Association as well as local golf associations, the youth golf movement has grown very strongly. Today's players have experienced coaches to guide them, are well-trained and have knowledge to improve their physical fitness, and have many quality tournaments, including those of Tien Phong newspaper , to exchange, learn and compete. Looking back, when golfer Nguyen Van Thong came to this sport, everything was much more difficult. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, golf was still new in Vietnam. There were not many players, equipment was lacking, and knowledge and information about golf were not easy to find.
However, with the studious, hard-working, and diligent personality of a Central Vietnamese person (Nguyen Van Thong is originally from Ha Tinh ), he improved his skills by practicing day and night. His idol is the legendary golfer Tiger Woods, who said that "there is no better secret than hard work", and "practice a thousand shots every day". Therefore, he devoted all his time to golf, constantly striving to improve himself. Besides, he also learned from foreign magazines and people around him.
Nguyen Van Thong came to golf in a rather unique way. When he first came to Ho Chi Minh City to make a living, he found a job as a caddie at Thu Duc Golf Course. Every day, carrying a bag of clubs following golfers through the holes, he gradually fell in love with this sport. After more than 1 year as a full-time caddie, thanks to his outstanding English ability, Nguyen Van Thong was transferred to the golf operations department, thereby having time to practice golf and improving day by day.
He then entered the top three in the selection, becoming a member of the National golf team competing at the 2001 and 2005 SEA Games, and at the 2006 Asian Games. He also won the National Championship twice (in 2006 and 2011), won a Gold medal at the 2014 National Sports Festival, and countless other titles.

As the CEO of PGA Phan Thiet shared, golf has opened new doors, brought opportunities and met people who love and help him in work as well as in life. Besides his success on the golf course, he also graduated with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California and became an excellent manager and executive.
Now, the passion and love for golf is still intact in golfer Nguyen Van Thong. He will come to Tien Phong Golf Championship - Non song mot doi with that passion and love and inspire young golfers. At the same time, together with everyone, create an exciting day of competition.
