Google has just announced a series of new features for the AI Mode tool, aiming to help students review effectively and understand academic issues more deeply.
This update focuses on the ability to create smart learning materials, interactive images, as well as integrating AI features directly into the browser.
With AI Mode, users can drag and drop information into the sidebar to create study guides. From there, they can continue to ask questions to clarify content or expand knowledge.
One highlight is that users can now upload images to AI Mode on desktop and ask questions about the content in the photo – such as a math homework assignment or a picture of a plant they want to learn about. This is an expansion of the feature that was first introduced in beta in April.
Additionally, Google is also testing a new feature that allows real-time camera sharing in AI Mode, based on the Search Live platform.
With this feature, users just need to point their phone camera at the question, then ask the question by voice instead of typing. Currently, this feature is only available in the US for those who have participated in the AI Mode Labs testing program.
Google is also working on integrating Lens into the Chrome browser, with an “Ask Google about this page” option that appears when users click on the address bar. Selecting this option will allow the tool to select what to search on the web page, then generate an AI Overview right in the browser sidebar. Users can continue to query deeper with the AI Mode button and the “Dive deeper” option.
Since last May, Google has integrated AI Mode into its US Search engine, allowing users to look up information on the web, get summaries, ask follow-up questions and chat back and forth with the engine.
With these upgrades, Google expects AI Mode to become a comprehensive learning tool, especially useful for students who need help with homework or exam preparation.
