Professor Le Thanh Son becomes Rector of Hanoi University of Science

Today, May 9, Director of Hanoi National University Le Quan signed a decision to recognize Professor Le Thanh Son, Vice Rector of the University of Science for the 2020-2025 term, to hold the position of Rector of the University of Science for the 2025-2030 term.

Professor Le Thanh Son's predecessor, Professor Vu Hoang Linh, has been transferred to become Chairman of the University Council of the University of Natural Sciences for the 2023-2028 term since May 8. Previously, the University of Natural Sciences did not have a Chairman of the University Council (only a Vice Chairman).

Professor Le Thanh Son, 55 years old, studied for his undergraduate and master's degrees at the Faculty of Chemistry, Hanoi National University (now Hanoi National University), and his PhD in Chemistry at Ehime University, Japan (1996 - 1999). Mr. Son has been a lecturer at the University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University since 1995, was appointed to the title of associate professor in 2007, and was recognized and appointed to the title of professor in 2019.

Professor Le Thanh Son has held many management positions at the University of Natural Sciences: Deputy Head of Science and Technology Department, Deputy Dean, then Dean of Chemistry Department, and Vice Principal.

Professor Vu Hoang Linh, 57 years old, is a former student of the specialized mathematics department of Hanoi National University (now the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences under the University of Natural Sciences); studied at the University of Szeged, did research at the University of Budapest (both in Hungary); received a doctorate in science (habilitation) at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany in 2014. He was appointed associate professor in 2007, and was recognized and appointed to the title of professor in 2022.

Professor Vu Hoang Linh has held many management positions at the University of Natural Sciences: Head of the Department of Mathematics - Mechanics - Informatics, vice principal, and principal.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the principal is the head of the university, but the university council is the highest authority. The university council will focus on making action plans and giving opinions on major tasks and policies. The specific implementation as well as daily operations will be carried out by the board of directors (headed by the principal).
