Ran Takahashi was born in 2001, of mixed American, British, German, and Japanese descent. He started playing sports at the age of seven and was captain of the volleyball team while studying at Nippon Sports Science University.
After two seasons with Pallavolo Padova Padua in the Italian professional league, Ran Takahashi joined Vero Volley Monza last year. He won the title of Best Striker at the 2023 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship.
