According to Mr. Phan Truong Thanh, Head of the Investment Finance Department, Hanoi Department of Construction, up to now, there has not been any planning project of the capital mentioning the construction of a tunnel through West Lake.

Even in the Project to Adjust the General Planning of Hanoi Capital to 2045, with a vision to 2065, which is the most important planning project at present, there is no mention of a tunnel or any construction connecting Tu Lien Bridge with Van Cao Street across West Lake.

Meanwhile, some construction and architectural experts also frankly pointed out that, technically, building a tunnel through West Lake is a major, complicated intervention with many potential risks.

Furthermore, West Lake is a space with special historical, cultural, landscape and environmental value of the Capital, so any impact on this area needs to be studied very carefully, and cannot be viewed only from the perspective of traffic infrastructure.
