Hanoi: The trillion-dollar West Thang Long Road project is "stirring" to take shape

As a vital traffic route, connecting the western region with the center of Hanoi capital, Tay Thang Long Avenue plays a huge role in the transformation of the socio-economic life of 5 districts, towns including Tay Ho, Bac Tu Liem, Dan Phuong, Phuc Tho, and Son Tay town.

Maintain urgent construction pace

This route intersects with most of the belt roads (Ring Road 2; Ring Road 2.5; Ring Road 3; Ring Road 3.5, Thuong Cat Bridge). When formed, residents can travel to the city center in about 10-15 minutes, instead of one hour as at present. The saving of travel time, along with the increasingly developed infrastructure of urban areas along the boulevard, promises to bring many improvements to the real estate market in the West of the capital.

As a trillion-dollar project, the scale of the Tay Thang Long route is also planned to be modern and large-scale. Accordingly, the technical standards of this route are divided into 2 sections: the section inside Ring Road 4 has a cross-section of 60.5m; the section outside Ring Road 4 has a cross-section of 40m.

According to the Hanoi Department of Transport, 6.04 km of the project has been completed according to the plan. The remaining 9.04 km are being studied for investment and construction and 18.10 km have not been implemented. Up to now, the first section of the boulevard (from Vo Chi Cong to Tay Tuu, Thuong Cat - passing through Tay Ho and Bac Tu Liem) has gradually taken shape and is in operation.

This section can be temporarily divided into 5 construction sections including: 2km from Vo Chi Cong Street to Pham Van Dong (section 1); 3.2km from Pham Van Dong to Van Tien Dung Street (section 2); 3km from Van Tien Dung Street to Tay Tuu, Thuong Cat (section 3); 4.9km from Tay Tuu to Ring Road 4 (section 4); 20km from Ring Road 4 to Son Tay town (section 5).

According to the latest update, sections 1 and 3 have been completed. Sections 4 and 5 have not been implemented yet. And most notably, section 2 is being rushed to complete to open the entire section 1, 2, 3 - that is, from Vo Chi Cong street to Tay Tuu, Thuong Cat in 2024.

Specifically, in section 2, the section from the Police Academy to the Van Tien Dung intersection, site clearance has been accelerated from October 2022 to the end of September 2023.

Bac Tu Liem District has proposed to the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee to submit a plan to add 800 billion VND to compensate for the section from Pham Van Dong to Cau Noi. If approved by the Hanoi People's Council, it will help speed up the project's progress.

Up to now, Hanoi city has assessed that the Tay Thang Long route from Pham Van Dong street to Van Tien Dung street, Bac Tu Liem district with a total investment of 1,494 billion VND, is still maintaining an urgent construction pace and will be completed soon according to the set plan.

Ready to "catch the wave" next year

At the same time, real estate infrastructure on the West Thang Long axis, from Vo Chi Cong to Tay Tuu, Thuong Cat is also increasingly complete, ready to "catch the wave" when the route is opened next year.

Section 1 of Tay Thang Long Road is currently Hoang Minh Thao Street, one of the modern and synchronous routes. This is the starting point of Tay Thang Long Road, where the 186ha Starlake project is being implemented, attracting investment from leading corporations such as Samsung, S&D, CJ, E-Mart... and gathering class A office buildings as well as luxury apartments, villas, and townhouses with the second highest prices in Hanoi.

Section 3 from Van Tien Dung to Ring Road 3.5 has been completed with a series of large projects that have been and are being prepared for implementation such as HaBiotech high-tech biological park (about 280ha), Tay Tuu urban functional area (86.5ha), Thuong Cat urban area... In addition, the Hanoi People's Council also approved the investment policy to build Ring Road 3.5 from Thuong Cat Bridge to National Highway 32 with an investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND and Thuong Cat Bridge 8,300 billion VND.
