Specifically, among these 679 students, there are 164 students who won national prizes in culture, arts, sports; science and technology research competitions; 106 students from ethnic boarding schools; 408 students with disabilities and 1 student from a very small ethnic group.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training notes that students who are admitted directly must complete the admission procedures at the high school and register for direct admission within the time specified in Official Dispatch No. 892/SGDĐT-QLT dated March 20, 2025 of the Department. Specifically, confirm admission from July 10 to July 12; submit admission documents from July 19 to July 22.
In 2025, it is expected that the entire city of Hanoi will have about 127,000 students considered to graduate from junior high school. Meanwhile, according to the latest data released by the Department of Education and Training, the number of candidates registering to take the entrance exam to non-specialized public high schools in Hanoi in 2025 is 103,456.
Thus, there are more than 23,500 Hanoi students who will not take the 2025 public high school entrance exam. In addition to those who are directly admitted, these are often students who do not choose to study high school at public schools, but choose to study a trade, study abroad, study high school at private schools, international schools, continuingeducation centers...
In 2025, the total enrollment target for grade 10 in 2025 assigned by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to 122 public and autonomous public schools is 1,795 classes with 79,740 students, an increase of nearly 5,000 targets compared to last year. The enrollment target assigned to 77 private high schools is 27,919 students, with 635 classes. Along with that, the Department assigned 12,080 targets to 29 vocational education - continuing education centers with 270 classes.
This year, out of 115 non-specialized public high schools, 71 schools increased their enrollment quotas compared to the 2024-2025 school year; 41 schools kept their enrollment quotas the same and 3 schools reduced their enrollment quotas.
Some schools increased their quotas, such as Viet Duc High School, Da Phuc High School and Thuong Tin High School, which increased by 135 students compared to last year; Tran Phu High School - Hoan Kiem, Kim Lien High School, Yen Hoa High School, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Xuan Dinh High School, and My Dinh High School, which all increased by 90 students compared to last year. On the contrary, Phung Khac Khoan High School - Thach That decreased its quota the most with 135 students.
Specialized high schools in Hanoi also adjusted their enrollment quotas for the 2025-2026 school year. The total enrollment quota for 4 specialized schools (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Son Tay High School for the Gifted) is 2,730 students (equivalent to 78 classes). Compared to the previous school year, the total enrollment quota for grade 10 of specialized schools increased by nearly 500 students, equivalent to 14 specialized classes.
Of which, Son Tay High School for the Gifted has increased its quota the most (210 students, equivalent to 6 specialized classes). Chu Van An High School for the Gifted has increased 4 specialized classes (about 140 students); Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted each have increased 2 specialized classes (about 70 students/school).
In 2025, the entrance exam for grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools in Hanoi will take place on June 7 and 8 with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Students can register for the foreign language exam in one of the following subjects: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean (depending on their ability, it is not required to take the foreign language exam studied at secondary school); in the case of students registering for German as a second foreign language, 7-year system, the foreign language exam must be in German.
On the morning of June 7, candidates will take the Literature exam for 120 minutes; in the afternoon of the same day, they will take the Foreign Language exam for 60 minutes. On the morning of June 8, candidates will take the Math exam for 120 minutes.
The formula for calculating the admission score (ADS) for grade 10 in Hanoi this year is as follows: ADS = Math score + Literature score + Foreign language score + priority score (if any) + incentive score (if any).
