Switch to online learning

Early this morning, Hanoi experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain over a wide area. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, it is forecasted that in the next 3-6 hours, the city will continue to experience moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms. The average rainfall is 40-70 mm, with some areas experiencing very heavy rainfall of over 100 mm. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that people need to be on guard against the risk of flooding in low-lying streets in the inner city.

At 6:00 a.m., Edison An Khanh Primary and Secondary School (Hanoi) informed parents: Due to the influence of storm No. 11, many places in Hanoi City had heavy rain lasting all night until early this morning, accompanied by thunder and lightning, thunderstorms... forecasting many flooded streets, difficult traffic, potential safety risks for students. Based on the direction of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET), Edison An Khanh Primary and Secondary School implemented the third online learning plan, October 7, to ensure maximum safety for students. The learning plan for October 8 will be updated to parents before 6:00 a.m. on October 8.

To ensure the safety of students and teachers, Dong Thai Secondary School (Tay Ho Ward, Hanoi) also sent a notice about the conversion of in-person learning to online learning. Classes will follow the timetable from period 1.

Many schools in Hanoi have also switched to online learning to ensure curriculum and flexibility in natural disaster situations.

Previously, on the afternoon of October 6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training issued Notice No. 3 on proactively responding to heavy rains caused by storm No. 11. According to the notice, the Department requested school principals and heads of units to proactively decide on appropriate teaching and learning methods (in-person, online or adjusted timetables) based on actual weather conditions in the area, physical facilities and traffic safety conditions; ensuring absolute safety for students, staff, teachers and employees.

The Department also reminded schools to closely monitor weather developments; check and clear drainage systems, schoolyards, cafeterias, and boarding areas; arrange to be on duty, update and promptly report on rain and flooding situations, and impacts on teaching and learning activities (if any) to the Department.

Flexible response

On October 6, with the news that the entire city of Hanoi would be closed and teaching methods would be flexible, many schools were ready with online learning plans.

Students of Giang Vo Secondary School (Hanoi) had a very special activity to summarize the process of responding to Lifelong Learning Week 2025 and together "Finding the red address".

Although storm No. 11 caused direct activities to be suspended, the school's first online class of the week was still very exciting thanks to the careful preparation and creativity of the teachers and the enthusiasm and energy of the students.

Although the Lifelong Learning Week 2025 takes place from October 1 to 7, the learning spirit of students continues to be spread through participation in the "I love my subject" Club, book introductions, ASMO, TIMO competitions, "For traffic safety in the capital in 2025", in-class lessons and self-study at home...

The school representative said that this year's lifelong learning week with the theme "Learning to develop yourself, mastering knowledge and technology, contributing to building a strong and prosperous country" was demonstrated by Giang Vo teachers and students with a positive, creative and enthusiastic learning attitude. At the same time, the journey "Finding the red address" to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025) helped students understand more deeply about the tradition of patriotism and national pride.

Students of Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School (Ngoc Ha Ward, Hanoi) study the regulations of the school's Board of Directors. Students switch to online learning via the platform "Meet.google.com". The flag-raising ceremony at the beginning of the week is still solemn.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Dung, the school's principal, shared: "Although the storm prevented students from going to school, their learning spirit was always maintained."

Bui Ngoc Thao Nguyen, a 7A1 student at Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School (Hanoi) said: "I feel very proud to sing the National Anthem even though it is only through the screen. I realize that learning is not only at school but anywhere, as long as you have the will and desire to learn."
