Hanoi approves plan and location for building Thuong Cat bridge

Perspective of Thuong Cat Bridge.

Accordingly, the starting point is at the intersection with Ky Vu Street in Thuong Cat Ward, Bac Tu Liem District, the end point is at the intersection with Road 23B in Dai Mach Commune, Dong Anh District; the total length of the route is about 5.2km. The route direction is determined on the basis of conformity with the General Construction Plan of the Capital, the Transport Plan of the Capital and the Urban Sub-Zone Plans of GS, Red River, N4 approved by competent authorities.

Thuong Cat Bridge is a special-grade project, the roads at both ends of the bridge are urban main roads. The typical cross-section of Thuong Cat Bridge is 31-53m (including 6 motor lanes and 2 non-motor lanes; separated lane). The road to the south of the bridge is 60m wide, including an approach bridge with 6 motor lanes in the middle, 2 parallel mixed lanes and median strips, safety strips, and sidewalks on both sides of the road. The road to the north of the bridge is 50m wide, including 4 motor lanes in the middle, 2 parallel mixed lanes and median strips, safety strips, and sidewalks on both sides of the road...

The City People's Committee assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to check and confirm the drawings of the route plan and location of the project according to the approval decision of the City People's Committee.

Previously, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment publicly announced the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report of the Thuong Cat Bridge Construction Investment Project and the roads at both ends of the bridge.

The design speed of the route is about 80km/h, ensuring smooth traffic flow throughout the entire beltway 3.5 from the South to the North of the Red River, reducing traffic load on route 70, beltway 3, and national highway 32.

The project does not use land or land with water surface of historical - cultural relics and scenic spots that have been ranked according to the law on cultural heritage.

The Thuong Cat Bridge project has a total investment of nearly 8,300 billion VND from the Hanoi city budget. The Hanoi City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is the investor.

Thuong Cat Bridge is one of 10 bridges across the Red River in the Hanoi Transport Planning, implemented in the period of 2015-2030. The remaining 9 bridges include: Hong Ha, Me So (ring road 4), Thang Long Moi (ring road 3), Tu Lien, Vinh Tuy (phase 2), Ngoc Hoi (ring road 3.5), Tran Hung Dao bridge/tunnel, Phu Xuyen bridge, Van Phuc (North-South axis road connecting to Vinh Phuc province).

On the afternoon of December 11, at the question and answer session of the 20th session of the Hanoi People's Council, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh also said that the city is focusing on developing transport infrastructure with a plan to build a total of 18 bridges across the river. Currently, 8 bridges have been invested in construction. In addition to Long Bien Bridge, the city plans to build 9 new bridges. According to the plan, by applying the new Capital Law, some important bridges such as Tu Lien Bridge and Ngoc Hoi Bridge will start construction in the first half of 2025.
