Wharf No. 1, Chan May Port is conveniently invested for large cargo and tourist ships to enter and exit.

Existing changes

From an ancient heritage city, Hue is taking on a new look with an increasingly complete infrastructure system. Many specialized conferences and seminars took place in the locality, and city leaders determined: To develop a sustainable socio-economic situation, it is necessary to start with transport infrastructure. This viewpoint is concretized by a series of key transport projects deployed in recent times, contributing to expanding new development space and effectively connecting regions inside and outside the locality.

For example, the Cam Lo - La Son and La Son - Tuy Loan expressways through the city are the main arteries connecting Hue with Da Nang and Quang Tri, helping to reduce travel time and logistics costs for businesses. National Highways 1A, 49A, and 49B have also been upgraded and expanded, contributing to gradually erasing the boundaries of remote areas, especially in the western mountainous areas such as A Luoi district (old), helping people access the city center more easily.

In addition, the major roads connecting the coast with central and satellite urban areas at the northern and southern gateways of the city are basically complete, such as Phu My - Thuan An (formerly Hue City); major roads in the Chan May - Lang Co area connecting National Highway 1A (formerly Phu Loc District); Phong Dien - Dien Loc road (formerly Phong Dien Town)... have connected the entire chain of coastal urban areas - lagoons and rural areas.

The completion and use of Nguyen Hoang Bridge over the Perfume River not only creates a highlight for Hue city but also connects with Ring Road 3 to reduce traffic volume for Phu Xuan and Da Vien bridges. In addition, Thuan An Bridge, a project across the estuary in the east with a total investment of more than 2,400 billion VND (phase 1) is about to be completed and Vinh Tu Bridge (connecting Quang Dien - Phong Quang commune); Phu Vang Bridge (connecting Phu Vang - Phu Vinh commune) ... to cross Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon are being studied for investment planning in the near future, promising to create a breakthrough in inter-regional waterway and road traffic in Hue City.

Thanks to the above infrastructure projects, remote, suburban areas such as Phu Loc, Phong Dien, Phu Vang (old) have changed significantly. People can transport agricultural and forestry products to the market more easily; students can go to school, people can visit health stations more conveniently and safely, especially during the rainy season.

Mr. Doan Ky Coi, former Standing Deputy Secretary of Phong Dien Town (old) shared: “Previously, it took nearly 1.5 hours to get from the farthest locality in the north of the city, such as Phong Hai (Phong Quang commune), to the city center, but thanks to the smooth roads, it now takes less than 1 hour to get there. The roads are easy to travel, people can exchange and trade more conveniently; many models of economic development and rural eco-tourism have been invested in and attracted more tourists.”

The city's western connecting road is now open.

New look

Synchronous infrastructure not only serves the people's livelihood but is also a "magnet" to attract large investment flows, especially foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic private investment. With its location in the middle of the Central region, bordering the sea, with Phu Bai International Airport, Chan May Deepwater Port to receive ships with a tonnage of more than 70,000 tons and a road system being completed, in addition to its strengths in tourism and service development, Hue City is becoming a locality with great potential in logistics and clean industry.

Currently, Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone (EZ) is located in the south of the city with the orientation to become a key industrial - tourism - logistics center, attracting many large corporations in the fields of processing, renewable energy, high-class resort hotels. With the local preferential mechanism and convenient traffic connecting Da Nang, the East-West economic corridor bordering Laos, Thailand..., this EZ is expected to be a new growth pole of Hue City in the coming time.

In the northern area of the city, Phong Dien and Tu Ha Industrial Parks and industrial clusters such as Dien Loc 1, Dien Loc 2, Son - Xuan - My are gradually planned and formed with technical infrastructure, roads, electricity and water supply to catch the wave of investment in green production, supporting industries, medicinal materials, and agricultural processing.

In the vision for the period 2025 - 2030, Hue City has identified this as a period of strong acceleration of transformation for the city directly under the Central Government with cultural, ecological, smart and modern identity. Currently, a series of strategic infrastructure projects continue to be invested in such as the eastern coastal road; To Huu Street extended to Phu Bai International Airport; Ring Road 3 through the center of Hue City connecting to Nguyen Hoang Bridge; research and implementation of construction of Tam Giang Lagoon overpasses, such as Vinh Tu, Phu Vang, Vinh Ha...; continue to expand roads to highlands and borders, especially proposing the Government to consider upgrading and expanding National Highway 49F connecting from Phong Dien Port to Hong Van - Co Tai Border Gate (section from National Highway 1A to Ho Chi Minh Road) to link regional and transnational development...
