Haaland breaks former Man Utd striker's record

Man City striker Erling Haaland broke Andy Cole's record of the player who needed the fewest matches to score 50 Premier League goals.

On the evening of November 25, with the opening goal in Man City's 1-1 draw with Liverpool in round 13, Haaland reached the milestone of 50 Premier League goals. The 23-year-old Norwegian striker only needed 48 matches to reach this number, while the previous record belonged to Andy Cole with 65 matches. Cole won five Premier League titles and one Champions League with Man Utd. In all competitions, the 52-year-old legend scored 121 goals in 257 games for Man Utd, 68 goals in 84 games for Newcastle, 37 goals in 100 games for Blackburn Rovers, 13 goals in 39 games for Fulham and 10 goals in 23 games for Man City.

Haaland's next target could be the fastest player to score 100 Premier League goals. Shearer holds the record after 124 games.

Last season, with 36 goals, Haaland broke the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season. The previous record was 32 goals set by Salah in the 2017-2018 season.

At the Etihad Stadium yesterday, Haaland opened the scoring in the 27th minute.
