Striker Erling Haaland sent a message of support to former teammate Jadon Sancho on the day the England midfielder left Man Utd to return to Dortmund on loan.
On January 11, Dortmund completed the loan deal for Sancho from Man Utd until the end of the 2023-2024 season. The Bundesliga club will pay around $4 million in loan fees, and will also cover a portion of Sancho's salary. The contract between the two sides does not include a buyout clause, and the English midfielder will return to Old Trafford in the summer.
After the deal was announced, Haaland posted a photo of Sancho wearing a Dortmund shirt on Instagram and wrote "Beautiful" with a love heart emoji.

Haaland and Sancho are close friends and former teammates, having played for Dortmund together for 18 months. In the summer of 2021, Sancho joined Man Utd for $109 million. A year later, Haaland also moved to Manchester, joining Man City for a fee of $63 million.
Earlier in January 2024, Haaland also praised the qualities of his former teammate. On Instagram, the Norwegian striker shared a picture of the duo celebrating the 2020-2021 German Cup title while at Dortmund and wrote "top player".
Returning to Dortmund, Sancho was given the number 10 shirt. The English midfielder wore the number 10 shirt when playing for Dortmund's U19 team, but then chose the number 7 shirt when promoted to the first team. During the 2017-2021 period, Sancho scored 50 and assisted 64 goals in 137 matches with Dortmund, and was considered the best young player in Europe.
The 23-year-old is excited to return to Dortmund. "When I walked into the dressing room today, it felt like I was coming home," Sancho said. "I know the club well, I've always been very close to the fans and I'm in constant contact with the people in charge of the club. I can't wait to see my team-mates again, to get out there, to play with a smile, to score goals, to make assists and to help the team qualify for the Champions League."

If registered, Sancho could play Dortmund's match against Darmstadt in the 17th round of the Bundesliga on January 14. Dortmund is currently in fifth place with 27 points, six points behind the team above, RB Leipzig.
Earlier this week, Sancho signalled his return to Dortmund by reactivating his Instagram account and changing his profile picture from his time at the German club. The English midfielder had hidden his social media account since falling out with coach Erik ten Hag and being expelled from the Man Utd first team.
At Old Trafford, Sancho failed to live up to fans' expectations, scoring just nine goals and providing six assists in 58 Premier League games. His performance dropped more than threefold, and he lost his place in the England team.
