In order to satirize events that Mr. Trump was more or less involved in, and at the same time warn about the risks that may occur if the far-right movement continues to grow in the context of the upcoming US election (November 5), two art statues were recently "displayed" near the White House, attracting the attention of the people.

Reminiscent of the Capitol Hill riots

According to CNN on October 29, a bronze statue depicting the desk of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared at the National Mall last week. On the desk are items such as her nameplate, a desk phone, papers and notably a large object shaped like a pile of poop. NPR said the statue is called The Resolute Desk , reminiscent of the famous desk used in the Oval Office of the White House, the workplace of the US president. The statue was designed to satirize the Capitol Hill riot that occurred on January 6, 2021. Thousands of supporters of then US President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol building to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election when Democratic candidate Joe Biden won. “This statue is to ‘honor’ those who bravely stormed the US Capitol building to loot, urinate and defecate in its hallowed halls to overthrow the election,” the plaque beneath the statue sarcastically reads. In fact, someone admitted to defecating on Pelosi’s desk, claiming “just arrest me because life is not worth living if Trump is out of office.” The riot lasted for several hours and left five people dead, including a police officer and several Trump supporters. The Capitol building also estimated the damage at up to $1.5 million after the incident.

Torch and protest events 2017

On October 28, another satirical statue appeared in the square not far from the White House, in the shape of a torch called The Donald J Trump Enduring Flame. According to the Guardian , this work is recalling the "Unite the Right" protest in Charlottesville (Virginia, USA) in 2017, where white nationalists and right-wing organizations held torches and chanted anti-Semitic slogans. "Unite the Right" became a protest event that shocked the US and the world, revealing the problem of racism and extremism rising in American society. Mr. Trump caused controversy later when he said that "there are very fine people on both sides", implying support for this extremist group. "This statue honors President Donald Trump and the 'very fine people' he bravely stood up to protect as they marched in Charlottesville, Virginia", the sign below the statue said. According to NPR, both works of art reflect what many consider embarrassing aspects of Trump’s past. Democrats have used these events as a way to criticize and undermine him in this election. Both statues are scheduled to be removed this week, so they won’t be there until Election Day, November 5.
