Hai Ha: Promoting tourism development

By effectively exploiting its natural landscape advantages, Hai Ha district has become an attractive choice for tourists from both within and outside the province in recent years.

When discussing the tourism potential of Hai Ha district, Cai Chien Island cannot be overlooked. Blessed with beautiful, long stretches of sandy beaches, lush green casuarina forests, and crystal-clear turquoise waters, Cai Chien is considered a natural paradise with its blue sea, white sand, and golden sunshine. Besides enjoying the pristine and romantic natural beauty, exploring and experiencing the culture and life of the island's inhabitants will undoubtedly leave visitors with unforgettable impressions. To kick off this year's summer tourism season, the opening ceremony of the Cai Chien Tourism and Culture Week 2025 took place on May 30th and 31st in Cai Chien commune, featuring a series of exciting and vibrant activities that attracted thousands of visitors, including: the art program "Cai Chien Welcomes Summer - A Call from the Blue Sea"; sports competitions such as dragon boat racing, kayaking, tug-of-war, and cross-country running; exhibitions of OCOP products and local specialties; and tours exploring the island's culture…

Since the beginning of the year, many vibrant cultural and tourism activities have taken place, attracting tourists to the district. Notable examples include the Song Mun Festival, associated with the announcement of the Decision by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognizing the "Initiation Ceremony of the Thanh Y Dao People" as a national intangible cultural heritage in Quang Ninh province; and the festivals at Quang Linh, My Son, and To communal houses. In the first five months of 2025, the entire district is estimated to have welcomed 110,900 visitors, reaching 65.24% of the annual plan, with estimated revenue of 266.16 billion VND, an increase of 146.3 billion VND compared to the same period in 2024.

Over the past period, Hai Ha district has invested significant resources in infrastructure and attracted investors to develop tourism in the area. The district has invested in developing a comprehensive tourism infrastructure system, including transportation (especially connecting to tourist areas, historical sites, and inter-district and inter-commune roads); upgrading and improving the quality of service on the transportation route to Cai Chien Island (docks, ferries, and canoes); completing procedures to introduce kayak tours to Cai Chien Island and electric vehicle tours to Cai Chien Island; and improving the quality of electricity, clean water, environmental treatment, communication, and other social infrastructure to meet the requirements of tourism development in the current trend. Special attention has been paid to remote and disadvantaged communes with abundant tourism resources such as Quang Duc and Quang Son.

Along with that, the district is promoting market development and building diverse, unique tourism products that are competitive with other localities inside and outside the province. This includes focusing on developing three groups of distinctive tourism products: The main, distinctive tourism group with national and regional significance includes: Tourism for visiting, researching, and experiencing the Dao ethnic culture in Quang Duc and Quang Son communes, combined with resort tourism and exploring the lake on Truc Bai Son mountain; high-end beach and island resort tourism; and ecological tourism and research in Cai Chien island commune. The distinctive tourism group with local significance includes: High-tech agricultural ecotourism associated with OCOP and VietGAP products (Quang Minh, Duong Hoa, Quang Thanh, and Quang Long communes); and cultural, festival, and spiritual tourism (Quang Ha town, Cai Chien, Quang Minh, and Duong Hoa communes).

Other supplementary tourism products include: Weekend recreational tourism: Dragon boat racing, fishing, squid fishing, picnics, camping (Cai Chien Island, Truc Bai Son Lake); adventure sports tourism: Mountain climbing, stream wading, waterfall crossing, trekking to explore primeval forests (Quang Duc, Quang Son, Cai Chien communes); shopping, culinary tourism, pedestrian streets, central markets (Quang Ha town); Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate tourist destination (according to Decision No. 1116/QD-UBND dated April 12, 2016) to visit and experience the sacred and majestic border.
