According to the Daily Mail, people living near this illegal landfill have told of the "nightmare" they have had to go through. Photo: Andy Kelvin/Daily Mail. The dump smelled worse in the summer when a fire broke out and burned for nine days before being extinguished by firefighters. A nearby elementary school was closed because of toxic smoke from the summer fire. Residents lacked running water because of the large amount of water needed to put out the fire. Photo: Daily Mail.
"It's a real nightmare. There are a lot of flies and rats in the residential area," a mother of two who lives a few meters from the dump told the Daily Mail. Photo: Daily Mail. "This used to be a livable place but not anymore," another resident shared. Photo: Daily Mail.
"A gang of criminals in Liverpool were allegedly hired to dump rubbish here. However, we are all afraid to stand up to these criminals. People have been threatened by them," said a pensioner.
