The Renault Twingo is about to enter its fourth generation, but a series of leaked photos have quickly spread on social media, revealing both the exterior and interior ahead of its official launch this week. This little city car seems ready to return with familiar charm and a new electric heart. This 2026 production version is almost exactly a reflection of the 2023 concept car.
There are only a few minor changes that stand out, such as traditional door handles, wheel covers, slightly tweaked LED lights, and redesigned bumpers with protective cladding for everyday use. The new Twingo retains the frog-eyed front end, compact boxy shape and rounded rear end that recall the spirit of the 1992 original, now stretched into a larger five-door body. Overall, this looks like another well-thought-out effort from the Renault design team, following in the footsteps of the slightly larger R5 that grabbed attention with its clean styling. Inside, the cabin retains much of the concept’s character, but with a reduced material palette to match production reality. Hard plastics replace the show car’s premium surfaces, and the seats are now covered in traditional fabric.
The 2026 Renault Twingo's dashboard features a floating infotainment screen above a smaller instrument cluster that looks familiar from a Dacia parts bin. Thankfully, Renault has kept the physical climate controls on both the center console and the steering wheel. A yellow accent on the dashboard adds a pop of color, combined with a quirky red trim between the front seats. Unlike previous generations, the fourth-generation Twingo will be exclusively offered with zero-emission powertrains. It will use the group's AmpR Small (formerly CMF-BEV) platform, shared with the larger R5, R4 and Nissan Micra.
Renault has yet to release detailed specifications, but the city car is expected to be powered by a single electric motor and use a small lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. In Europe's A-segment, the Twingo will face competition from small electric cars such as the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03. It will also compete with the upcoming Volkswagen ID.Every1 and an as-yet-unnamed Nissan sibling. It will also compete with budget B-segment rivals like the Fiat Grande Panda and Citroën e-C3 twins. Back in 2023, Renault’s then-CEO Luca de Meo promised that the new Twingo would start at less than 20,000 euros ($23,000) before subsidies, with leases starting from just 100 euros ($115) a month. Whether those figures still hold true in today’s market remains to be seen.
