According to the Times Of Israel on November 6, six sources told Reuters that the US is preparing to establish a military presence at an air base in Damascus to support the implementation of the security treaty that Washington is brokering between Syria and Israel.
The planned US military presence in the Syrian capital, which has not been previously reported, would signal Syria's strategic adjustment to the US following the fall of longtime leader Bashar al-Assad, an ally of Iran, last year.

The new US plans appear to reflect another new US military presence in the region to monitor ceasefire agreements.
The air base is at the gateway to areas of southern Syria that are slated to form a demilitarized zone under a non-aggression pact between Israel and Syria, which is being brokered by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
Reuters reportedly spoke to six sources familiar with the preparations at the base, including two Western officials and a Syrian defense official, who confirmed that the US is planning to use the base to help monitor a potential deal between Israel and Syria.
The Pentagon and the Syrian Foreign Ministry have not commented on the plan.
"The United States is constantly assessing what is needed in Syria to effectively counter ISIS and we do not comment on where forces may be operating," a US administration official said.
