The Guardian newspaper reported that emergency crews rushed to the scene at Caboolture Airport after receiving information about two planes colliding in the air north of Brisbane at about 10:30 a.m. on July 28.

Authorities confirmed that the two victims were over 60 years old. They were on the plane that was taking off at the time.

The pilot, over 70 years old, of the remaining plane was lucky to survive and managed to leave the wreckage of the plane he was piloting uninjured.

Images taken and filmed at the scene showed debris scattered across the airport, while emergency response teams were present around the wreckage of the two planes.

Police confirmed that the two planes collided while they were at a low altitude. The collision site is on the eastern edge of the airport.

According to police sources, the two planes collided while landing or taking off. The cause of the incident is still unknown and investigators are in the process of clarifying the incident.

The airport was closed during the investigation.
