Female student receives 1.2 billion VND scholarship
Nguyen Kim Lai (22 years old, in Tra Vinh ) has just excellently received a scholarship from the Chinese Government (CSC) with a total value of up to 1.2 billion VND. Kim Lai was born and raised in Cang Long district, Tra Vinh.
After finishing high school, Lai was admitted to the nursing program at Tra Vinh University. Lai shared that she chose nursing because she wanted to take care of community health.
However, after a period of studying and experiencing, Lai realized that nursing was not for her. At this time, she found herself passionate about learning and teaching languages, especially Chinese.
After some consideration, Lai decided to change her major from nursing to studying Chinese Language.
“This was not an easy decision, because I had to face many difficulties such as lacking a language foundation and having to take many extra courses to keep up with my classmates,” Kim Lai said, adding that she had tried very hard to overcome the difficult period and excel in her studies.
From the second semester, Kim Lai rose to excellent status and achieved the highest score in the class. Lai said that during her studies, she received a scholarship from Tra Vinh University for students with difficult circumstances who achieved excellent results.
Lai added that she is constantly improving her English skills and learning Japanese and Korean. The Tra Vinh student also works as a teaching assistant at Chinese centers, translates stories and tutors… helping her to be independent in life and practice the necessary skills for teaching.
Accordingly, Lai started working at Victory Foreign Language - Information Technology Center (Tra Vinh University) from November 2023 as an international volunteer manager, teaching assistant, and then became a Chinese teacher at the center after receiving her graduation certificate.
In particular, since her third year of university, with the suggestions and support from teachers at the Chinese Language Department, Kim Lai has cherished and nurtured the dream of studying abroad in China.
The female student shared: “I learned that the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) is the most prestigious scholarship for students from all over the world with excellent achievements, with high benefits such as free tuition, free dormitory, insurance and a monthly living allowance of 3,000 yuan (equivalent to 10.5 million VND) with a total scholarship value of up to 1.2 billion VND.”
Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Tam - Head of the Chinese Language Department, School of Southern Khmer Language - Culture - Arts and Humanities (Tra Vinh University) is an academic advisor and thesis supervisor who encouraged and suggested future directions for Kim Lai.
With the guidance of Mr. Tam, Kim Lai actively studied and participated in the international HSK proficiency exam, taking the HSK5 exam for the first time with a score of 279.
After 2 months, Kim Lai continued to take the higher exam and achieved HSK6. Lai spent 2 months preparing her master's study plan and participating in writing her graduation thesis.
With her relentless efforts and determination, Kim Lai achieved success when she excellently won a scholarship from the Chinese Government . In addition to the joy of receiving the prestigious scholarship, Kim Lai was also retained as a teaching assistant at the Department of Chinese Language.
Study English but win high prize in Korean contest
Vo Hanh Nhung (2nd year student - Tra Vinh University) just won second prize at the "King Sejong Korean Speaking Contest 2024". What is special is that Nhung majored in English but won a high prize at the Korean speaking contest.
Nhung shared that her hometown is Tra Vinh, she is an only child, her parents are retired. This female student has a strong passion for English Language. During her studies, Nhung was chosen to learn a second language.
“Besides English, I really like Korean. I have only been learning Korean for half a year now. Thanks to the encouragement and support of the teachers, I confidently participated in the King Sejong Korean Speaking and Writing Contest and was lucky to win second prize,” Nhung shared, adding that it opened up opportunities for her to experience Korean culture.
In addition to studying in class, Hanh Nhung actively participates in useful extracurricular activities at school. These activities help Nhung expand her knowledge and develop social skills.
From her achievements in the competition, Nhung was selected to participate in the upcoming Korean academic exchange and cultural experience program.
“This is an opportunity for students in Tra Vinh like me to explore and experience the culture in the capital city of Seoul, South Korea,” Nhung said. She said she will take advantage of this opportunity to be exposed to diverse cultures, develop language skills, and become more confident in international communication.
Previously, Hanh Nhung won third prize at the English speaking contest "Champions of change".
Touching sharing of a 73-year-old new PhD in Tra Vinh
