Thousands of fake MLB, Boss... shoes and shirts seized

(Dan Tri) - Customs authorities have just discovered and seized thousands of counterfeit products bearing the brands MLB, Hugo Boss, Armani Exchange... with a total estimated value of more than 8 billion VND in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the evening of May 22, the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ) announced a case related to origin fraud and trademark counterfeiting with a total estimated value of infringing goods of over 17 billion VND.

Accordingly, on May 13, Anti-smuggling Control Team No. 3 (Team 3), Anti-smuggling Investigation Department, in coordination with Saigon Port Customs Area 1 (Customs Area II) inspected a shipment contained in a 40-foot container numbered HPPU9007070, registered under the name of KTĐ Company Limited.

According to the declaration, the goods included shoes, T-shirts, and handbags made of industrial leather, without labels, with a total value of 24,638.4 USD (equivalent to nearly 600 million VND). The total weight of the shipment was 10.92 tons.

However, at the time of inspection, the enterprise could not present documents, invoices, and certificates related to intellectual property as well as the origin of the goods.

The Customs Department has coordinated with representatives of the entities whose trademarks were counterfeited to conduct sample testing.

The results showed that 5 items were identified as counterfeit brands, including 990 pairs of MLB women's sneakers , 36 pairs of Hugo Boss men's sneakers, 1,511 Armani Exchange T-shirts and a number of counterfeit Vans and The North Face products. The total value of the counterfeit goods is estimated at over 8.1 billion VND.

In addition, there are 4 genuine items but they are not on the list of authorized exporters and the enterprise cannot present invoices or documents proving their origin. The total value of these goods is estimated at nearly 9.3 billion VND.

Thus, the total value of infringing goods seized by the Customs Department is estimated at 17.4 billion VND.

The Customs Department is continuing to verify and clarify related details to soon announce the results of handling the case.
