Save the Children began its first support activities in Vietnam in 1968. But it was not until more than 20 years later, in 1990, that SC officially registered its operations here and was one of the first non -governmental organizations (NGOs) to operate in Vietnam after the reform period. SC came to Vietnam with the mission of promoting breakthroughs in the way children are cared for, hoping to bring positive, rapid and sustainable changes to children's lives.
Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huong, Chief Representative of SC Organization.
In its early days, SC had four representative offices with support resources from Save the Children USA, UK, Japan and Sweden. The offices operated relatively independently of each other. With the merger of the activities of the member Save the Children Organizations and the establishment of Save the Children International in 2010, which operates in parallel in both development and emergency relief, SC has become the largest organization in the world working on children's rights and always aims for a world where every child has the right to survival, protection, development and participation.
The merger of four member organizations has resulted in diverse projects with rich approaches, abundant resources and effective organization. From SC's first activity, the child nutrition project in Thanh Hoa , with an innovative community-based and child-centered approach, this flagship program was then replicated. This first step laid the foundation for SC's continuous development.
To date, SC has operated in more than half of Vietnam’s provinces and cities. With offices in Hanoi, Lao Cai, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, and the enthusiasm of many generations of leaders and employees since the early days, especially the support and effective cooperation of partner agencies, SC has continuously developed and expanded its activities in many fields, from health care, nutrition to education programs, child protection as well as emergency relief and disaster risk reduction.
