In the decision to reject the appeal of FAM and the players involved, FIFA also asked the organization's secretariat to open an investigation into FAM's internal operations. Accordingly, Malaysian football legend Datuk Jamal Nasir Ismail emphasized that the government - including KBS - has absolutely no right to interfere. Because that will lead to more serious consequences, even FIFA will suspend FAM's operations.
Why doesn't the Malaysian government intervene?
The reason is that under the FIFA Statutes, any form of government interference in the internal operations or investigations of a national football association is considered a violation of international rules. Therefore, the Malaysian Government and KBS are obliged to allow FIFA to conduct a full investigation into FAM, including a review of the internal operating structure of the association.

If FAM is suspended by FIFA, the Malaysian national team will lose the right to compete internationally; and the youth teams will also be banned from participating in all tournaments. The Malaysian league and the semi-professional football system will also be completely stopped, while Malaysian clubs will lose the right to participate in all tournaments organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). More seriously, youth football development programs will be interrupted, leading to paralysis of the entire domestic football ecosystem.
Former football star Nasir Ismail said that the decision had been made by FIFA and FAM must directly resolve the issue with the world's most powerful football body. "If the government or KBS intervenes, things will get worse, FAM may even be suspended like Indonesia and Brunei before. FAM must resolve it with FIFA. I believe the government also understands this and will not interfere, because the case is very serious," said Mr. Nasir Ismail.

Previously, Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh affirmed that the ministry will fully comply with FIFA's international regulations, and at the same time require FAM and relevant parties to ensure accountability to strengthen fans' trust.
FIFA has been very tough on political interference in football. Over the past 10 years, a series of member football associations have been suspended for violating this principle. In Southeast Asia: Indonesia was suspended in 2015, after the government froze PSSI; Brunei was suspended due to interference by the courts/state agencies.
