Vice Chairman of Long Thanh District People's Committee Nguyen Huu Thanh said that each coffee shop implementing this model will be supported with a bookshelf containing books on culture, history, life knowledge... to facilitate people to enjoy drinks and read books to relax; contributing to arousing reading culture, promoting digital transformation and administrative reform (PAR) contents in the district.
From the pilot sites
According to Mr. Thanh, after 3 months of implementation (from August to November 2024), the model was implemented in 6/14 commune-level units with nearly 10 cafes applied. Each Digital Book Cafe model has a bookshelf with over 300 books, along with panels, QR codes and a large information board with 25 criteria on administrative reform for people to access.
Cafe 130, Kim Son area, Long Thanh town is the first place where Long Thanh town People's Committee has piloted the model. When entering the cafe, customers can enjoy drinks in a quiet, airy space, while improving their knowledge by reading books on the bookshelf or scanning QR codes to read books. Another advantage is that customers coming to the cafe can order drinks and pay by scanning QR codes to promote online payments.
Ms. Vu Thi Hao, owner of coffee shop 130, said: "Compared to before implementing the model, the number of customers increased by more than 30%, especially in the mornings and on weekends."
Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh, a graduate student writing his thesis, shared when coming to Cafe 130: "It is very convenient for young people like us to understand more about cultures, and we can find a lot of necessary and useful information when coming to this cafe."
Vice Chairman of Long Thanh Town People's Committee LE DINH TINH said that after the initial success of the Digital Transformation Book Cafe model at Cafe 130 and Gio Moi, in the coming time, the town will continue to survey and support 20 cafes with areas that meet the Digital Transformation criteria to continue to expand.
Continue to replicate locally
Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Long Thanh district, Le Khac Toan, a member of the district's Administrative Reform Steering Committee, said that the implementation of the Digital Book Cafe model not only brings benefits to business people and coffee drinkers, but at these locations, the district's Administrative Reform Steering Committee also arranges legal propaganda boards; supports fire prevention, firefighting and rescue skills through QR code scanning; supports upgrading 2G SIM cards to 4G; guides on cashless payments, etc.
"This is one of the solutions to promote digital transformation and cashless payments in the area," Mr. Toan emphasized.
Mr. Toan gave an example, if books and newspapers are kept at one-stop shops or administrative centers, it will be difficult for people to borrow and read books. Implementing the Digital Book Cafe model, young people who are tech-savvy can support people with limited technology but love reading books to scan QR codes to read books or read directly on the bookshelf.
Ms. Huynh Huong (living in Phuoc Hai neighborhood) often reads books at Gio Moi coffee shop and confided: "I still have the habit of reading books directly, but recently, when I came to drink coffee, young people guided me to read books by scanning QR codes, so now, reading books online is easier and more convenient for me."
Mr. Le Khac Toan said that to promote digital transformation and build a digital society, we must first have digital citizens. Therefore, digital transformation book cafes have been contributing to the expansion and popularization of digital technology to the people. This model has contributed to promoting the online payment volume of Long Thanh town to over 96%, a significant increase compared to the previous year.
