On the afternoon of July 28, the press conference before the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship between the Vietnam U23 team and host Indonesia U23 team took place at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

Coach Gerald Vanenburg shared: "U23 Indonesia is playing with a strong squad. In the last training session today, I will check whether the players are ready to compete or not. In the recent training sessions, I only let the team practice lightly.

The team spirit is very good. U23 Indonesia is focusing on recovering their physical strength after the 120-minute match with U23 Thailand in the semi-finals. We are preparing to compete with U23 Vietnam tomorrow," added coach Vanenburg.

The Dutch coach also affirmed that U23 Indonesia is not afraid of having to take another penalty shootout in the final.

Coach Vanenburg confidently said: "It's no problem if we have to go into a penalty shootout with U23 Vietnam. When taking a penalty, the important thing is the spirit, whoever is confident will take it. The U23 Indonesian players did well in the semi-final match with U23 Thailand so there's no problem with this."

Coach Gerald Vanenburg lost his voice because he had been giving enthusiastic instructions on the field since the beginning of the tournament. Therefore, the media asked him: "In tomorrow's final match, when you have to remind the players, what will you do?"

The Indonesian U23 captain humorously replied: "I'm better. But I think the players are good enough to play football without needing too much guidance from me on the field. And they probably don't like me reminding them too much."

Despite having home field advantage, the U23 Indonesia team also faces the possibility of not having their strongest squad for the championship match against U23 Vietnam due to injuries and poor physical condition.

However, coach Gerald Vanenburg was optimistic: "They still look good. Hopefully the players have the best preparation for the final. But if they can't play, I still have to find other options."

For his part, defender Achmad Maulana affirmed that U23 Indonesia is ready to win. He said: "We will try to play our football. The whole team needs to be patient, maintain the style of play to score goals."

The final match of U23 Southeast Asia between U23 Indonesia and U23 Vietnam will take place at 8pm tomorrow night, July 29.
