Speaking to Indonesian media yesterday (January 20), coach Shin Tae-yong said: "Currently, I officially end my work in Indonesia. I will always remember your love for me. Indonesian football fans are extraordinary. I am grateful to all the Indonesian people who have always shown me affection. For now, I haven't accepted any offers from any team. I want to take a break for a while."
Coach Shin Tae-yong has stated that he has not yet agreed to coach any team, following his departure from the Indonesian national team's coaching position.
Immediately after coach Shin Tae-yong was sacked from his position as head coach of the Indonesian national team, at least three clubs in Indonesia expressed interest in signing the South Korean coach. These three clubs are Bali United, Persis, and PSIS Semarang. Among them, Persis is owned by the president of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI), Erick Thohir.
Meanwhile, in the V-League, rumors have been circulating in recent days that coach Shin Tae-yong might lead Hanoi FC. However, with coach Shin Tae-yong's statement to the Indonesian media yesterday, it seems this is just a rumor; there is no truth to the claim that the South Korean coach will lead the team owned by Mr. Hien.
Shin Tae-yong worked with the Indonesian national team for approximately five years. He signed a contract with the Indonesian Football Federation at the end of 2019 and was officially dismissed on January 6, 2025. His salary during his time leading the Indonesian national team was approximately US$1.5 million (about 38 billion VND) per year. The South Korean coach was the highest-paid coach in Southeast Asian football during his tenure in Indonesia.
Mr. Shin Tae-yong received over 100 billion won in compensation.
After being dismissed by PSSI, coach Shin Tae-yong received compensation of approximately 70.3 billion rupiah (about 109 billion VND), which included more than two years of remaining salary from his contract with PSSI (which runs until June 2027), unemployment insurance, etc.
Before being sacked by PSSI, coach Shin Tae-yong was offered the opportunity to return to coach the South Korean national team last year, after the Korea Football Association (KFA) dismissed coach Jurgen Klinsmann (German). At that time, because coach Shin Tae-yong still had a contract with the Indonesian national team, the KFA turned its attention to inviting South Korean football legend Hong Myung-bo to take the head coach position of the team nicknamed the "Asian Tigers".
