Last night (July 25), U23 Indonesia defeated U23 Thailand in the semi-final match of the U23 Southeast Asian Championship at Bung Karno Stadium. This was a tense and emotional match. After 120 minutes, the two teams tied 1-1. Finally, U23 Indonesia defeated their opponents with a score of 7-6 after the penalty shootout.

With this result, the team from the archipelago has won the right to enter the final to meet U23 Vietnam. This match is a reenactment of the final match of the tournament 2 years ago. At that time, U23 Vietnam defeated U23 Indonesia after a penalty shootout to win the championship.
The match between U23 Indonesia and U23 Thailand was so tense that coach Gerald Vanenburg lost his voice from shouting too much, so he could not attend the post-match press conference.
Instead, assistant coach Frank van Kempen attended the press conference. He shared the reason for coach Gerald Vanenburg's absence: "He has lost his voice. During the whole match, the coach shouted too much. That's why I'm sitting here to replace him."
Commenting on the strength of U23 Vietnam, Mr. Frank van Kempen said: “They are a strong team. I have not watched all of their matches in this tournament, only a few matches. I see that U23 Vietnam is very good. We will prepare as best as possible before the final match.”
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ardiansyah assessed U23 Vietnam: “We are ready to enter the final match. If we have to play penalties, the chances of both teams are 50-50. However, we will try to solve the opponent in 90 minutes.”

Speaking about the match against Thailand U23, assistant coach Frank van Kempen said: “We are very happy after this victory. This was an extremely difficult match. Therefore, the whole team is extremely happy to have won against Thailand U23.”
The final match of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament between U23 Vietnam and U23 Indonesia will take place at 8:00 p.m. on July 29.
