According to Vice Chairman of Can Loc District People's Committee Nguyen Tien Dung, during the war years, Can Loc district, especially the areas of Dong Loc T-junction, Nghen... were the focus of fierce attacks by the US imperialists. According to the investigation and survey results of the Engineering Command, 17/17 communes and towns in Can Loc district were contaminated with bombs, mines and explosives. The total contaminated area of the district is 38.8%. Currently, the amount of bombs, mines and explosives of all kinds remaining underground is still very large. Every year, in the process of labor, production and construction of civil works, people still discover many types of bombs, artillery shells, and mortars of all kinds that need to be handled.

Over the years, the District People's Committee has done a good job of leading, directing, propagating, disseminating andeducating to overcome the consequences of post-war bombs and mines. However, besides the common efforts, the awareness of a part of the people about the harmful effects of bombs, mines and explosives is still low, and there are still accidents causing damage to people and property...

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chinh, one of the bomb and mine victims since 1993, received emotional support and shared: The money we received today not only has material value, but is also a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping us have faith and determination to rise up from poverty and improve our family life.

Mr. Tran At, who lost an arm in a mine accident in 1982, also expressed his gratitude for the attention he received from the Vietnam Association for the Support of Mine Action. He hopes that more kind-hearted people will continue to accompany and help those affected by mines.
