From May 27 to June 4, at the Fine Arts Exhibition Hall 16 Ngo Quyen ( Hanoi ), the painting exhibition "Countryside Colors and Sketches" by artist Quynh Thom opened, introducing 168 typical works of the artist from Vinh Phuc.
Painter Quynh Thom (middle) and delegates cut the ribbon to open the exhibition on the afternoon of May 27.
Painter Quynh Thom was born in 1971 in Tuan Chinh commune, Vinh Tuong district, Vinh Phuc province. From 1988 to 1991, he was a graphic arts student at Vinh Phu Provincial College of Culture and Arts, then continued to study at the Central University of Fine Arts Education (Hanoi). However, for many reasons, for a long time, the artist rarely created, mainly designing graphics for commercial activities. From 2021 to now, he has continuously picked up the brush to create many works and has had 6 art exhibitions in Vinh Phuc.
Paintings with a variety of themes and materials are displayed on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Exhibition House at 16 Ngo Quyen, affirming the passion for art and abundant creativity of painter Quynh Thom as many names in the art world have commented.
The exhibition brings to the audience the colors of the midland homeland, from palm forests and tea hills to ethnic minority villages.
At the opening ceremony, art critic Mai Thi Ngoc Oanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, said that painter Quynh Thom is a rather special case when opening an exhibition in Hanoi and receiving the attendance and support of representatives from both local Literature and Arts Associations of Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho .
Visiting the gallery, viewers can easily notice the bright colors and positive emotions that pervade it. Many famous landscapes of Vinh Phuc are recreated by the author, such as the misty Tam Dao, the magical Tay Thien, the majestic Lo Giang, the green Dai Lai... or simply the rustic, peaceful natural scenery found in many rural areas of Vietnam such as golden rice fields, tilted bamboo fences, quiet boats, and bright pink lotus ponds...
Painter Quynh Thom travels to many places and records her feelings through painting.
Painter Do Ngoc Dung, Chairman of the Phu Tho Literature and Arts Association, analyzed: “Quynh Thom has a rather liberal style, masters the material, knows how to exploit the strengths of the material to express and he is quite successful in many works, especially in paintings of mountain landscapes, clouds and water. Whether calm or agitated, Quynh Thom recreates quite successfully. Let's look closely at the clear shadows of hills, bamboo hedges, or banana bushes on the water surface in the paintings, or the unrestrained, unrestrained brush strokes, emphasizing the rays of sunlight of dawn, of dusk, and the smoothness and blurring of the transitions of colors…”.
In her first solo exhibition in Hanoi, artist Quynh Thom shared that the theme “Countryside Colors” has the meaning of regional cultural colors, which are also the colors of paintings. The author wants to bring emotions and nuances of the homeland to domestic and international art lovers.
Exhibition space for portrait sketches of artists, celebrities, and close friends of the author.
Although proficient in many materials, artist Quynh Thom also emphasizes her love and interest in Chinese ink paintings, sketches and acrylics.
