Study at the coffee shop

During exam season, instead of going to the library or studying at home, many students choose to study and work in groups at coffee shops or milk tea shops. Students are quite satisfied with this study space because it brings comfort and inspires creativity.

Depending on their “budget” conditions, the frequency of students studying at coffee shops is also different. Usually, exam season is the time when they spend more money on this “study space”.

Change the study space

In recent days, Nguyen Le Khanh, a 12B student at Ngo Quyen High School (Bien Hoa City), has been focusing on studying for the exam. Le Khanh is studying for the second round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's Competency Assessment Test and is also preparing for the High School Graduation Exam. Therefore, Le Khanh spends most of her days at home studying without going out. This makes her feel suffocated and stressed.

Some coffee shops also have private rooms equipped with screens and projectors to serve customers' study and group work needs. Customers will often have to pay an additional fee or rent a room to work in groups in these private spaces.

To relieve stress and not miss out on studying for the exam, Le Khanh made an appointment with her friends to go to a coffee shop near her house (Tan Phong ward, Bien Hoa city) to study. This is a coffee shop with a fairly spacious space, with a separate area for customers to come and drink, work, and study. Customers are reminded not to make noise, affecting those around them. Therefore, although the shop is crowded, Khanh and her friends can still focus on studying and discussing in groups.

Le Khanh shared: “After many days at home, I feel stuffy so I want to change the space to relieve stress and create interest in studying. A cool, beautifully decorated coffee shop can also help me and my friends have new ideas and initiatives. On average, I will go to a coffee shop with my friends to study once a week. This frequency is suitable for students' finances.”

To prepare for the final exam, Ms. Bui Truc Ly, a third-year student majoring in early childhood education at Dong Nai University, and her friends gathered at a coffee shop to study. Ms. Truc Ly said: “My house is in Trang Bom district, but my group of friends live in Bien Hoa. Moreover, there are many quiet, “chill” coffee shops here, so I took the trouble to drive from Trang Bom up here to study with my friends.”

According to Ms. Truc Ly, she usually studies alone at home, but when she needs to work in groups and review, a coffee shop is her number one choice because if she studies at home, she is easily distracted and has difficulty escaping the "temptation" of laziness. Moreover, studying together can help the group discuss the lesson to consult each other's opinions and remember the lesson more easily.

Inspire creativity

Not only Le Khanh or Truc Ly's group of friends, the trend of choosing coffee shops or milk tea shops as a place to study and work in groups has become familiar to many students because of the conveniences that the shops bring. With an average amount of 35-60 thousand VND, students can enjoy their favorite drinks while studying in a cool space (with air conditioning), comfortably, without worrying about disturbing their parents like when gathering at someone's house in the group.

To serve customers who come to study and work, coffee shops provide necessary amenities such as: Wi-Fi, many power outlets to charge phones/laptops, self-service drinking water areas (filtered water, iced tea), security guards to keep vehicles... Many shops also have small, private working rooms, suitable for group work, workshops... The decoration is also focused on to suit the customer: modern decoration, inspiring creativity, book space, lots of trees...

Due to the nature of her work, Master Khuat Kieu Diem Nhi, Head of Communications Department, Lac Hong University, often works in groups with students. Coffee shops and milk tea shops are also her priority choices when working with students to implement projects and events...

Ms. Diem Nhi said that the coffee shops and milk tea shops where students come to study and work in groups all have modern and civilized spaces... Working in groups in these spaces, she feels that she is more creative and effective. When everyone around her focuses on working, studying, and discussing, it also motivates her and her fellow students to focus on their work and work more productively.
