Residency is a special training program, lasting 3-5 years (depending on the training facility) after 6 years of medical school, continuous practice at the hospital.

The tuition fee for residency is up to 932.4 million VND/year. However, successful students have the opportunity to be exempted from tuition fees and receive other sponsorship/allowances from the Vinmec Healthcare system according to annual regulations (about 10 million VND/month).
In addition, according to Decree No. 238 regulating tuition policy, resident medical students specializing in psychiatry, pathology, forensic medicine, forensic psychiatry, infectious diseases and emergency resuscitation at public educational institutions in the health sector will be exempted from tuition fees.

Students studying postgraduate training programs at training institutions are not allowed to submit application for the exam.
To take the exam for the Residency Program of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2025, the required condition is that the doctor is under 27 years old, has a regular medical degree and takes the specialized subjects as prescribed, with 2 general subjects: Foreign Language and Comprehensive Exam (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics).
For Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, tuition fees for the 2025-2026 school year have not been announced, but in the 2024-2025 school year, tuition fees for the residency program are 63 million VND/school year.
This year, the school is enrolling 11 resident medical majors. The entry requirements are full-time general practitioners, graduating in 2025 and achieving a good grade or higher.
During the 6 years of university, candidates must not have received disciplinary action from warning or above, and must not have had their studies suspended.
