Which school has the highest residency tuition?

Residency is a special training program, lasting 3-5 years (depending on the training facility) after 6 years of medical school, continuous practice at the hospital.

This is considered a form of training for good experts and young elite human resources in the medical industry, applied to both clinical, paraclinical and preventive medicine.

Currently, Vietnam has 13 schools that train residents. Each person can only take the exam once. The competition rate is very high because the number of quotas is very limited, some majors only recruit a few people each year. Only about 5-10% of students in a course have the opportunity to enter the program.

This year, Hanoi Medical University trains 38 resident medical specialties. The resident medical quota is 426, of which 402 are for Hanoi Medical University; 13 are for Thanh Hoa branch; 6 are for Lao Cai Department of Health ; 5 are for Thai Nguyen Central Hospital.

Tuition fees range from 24.7-32.6 million/student (5 months).

In 2025, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Vietnam National University, Hanoi ) will recruit 165 resident doctors for 13 specialties including: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Diagnostic Imaging, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Oncology, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Emergency Resuscitation, Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Dentistry.

In the 2025-2026 school year, the tuition fee for residency is 74,640,000 VND/student. The following school years will be implemented according to the regulations.

The condition is that candidates must graduate with a regular medical degree in Medicine or Dentistry with a good grade or higher in the year of the entrance exam (only the first graduation exam score is counted).

During the university years, candidates must not have been disciplined from warning or above, and must not have had their studies suspended (except for health reasons). In addition, candidates must have foreign language proficiency at level 3 or higher. Candidates who meet the registration requirements will take an entrance exam with three basic subjects and basic subjects 1 and 2.

Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the school announced the tuition fee for resident doctors is about 7.7 million VND/month. This year, the school recruits 71 students for 4 majors: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Traditional Medicine. Candidates will take 5 subjects in essay format.

In 2025, VinUni University's target is 40 students for 5 majors, training in 4-5 years.

The school requires applicants to have a full-time university degree in 2025 in the field of Medical Doctor, with an average score of 6 years of study of at least 7 or higher.

Candidates must go through three rounds, including application review; IFOM (International Foundation of Medicine) test in English, developed by the US Medical Examination Board and finally the interview round.

The tuition fee for residency is up to 932.4 million VND/year. However, successful students have the opportunity to be exempted from tuition fees and receive other sponsorship/allowances from the Vinmec Healthcare system according to annual regulations (about 10 million VND/month).

In addition, according to Decree No. 238 regulating tuition policy, resident medical students specializing in psychiatry, pathology, forensic medicine, forensic psychiatry, infectious diseases and emergency resuscitation at public educational institutions in the health sector will be exempted from tuition fees.

If at a private educational institution in the health sector, students in the above majors will receive tuition support.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy enrolls 279 students for 28 residency majors. Tuition fees for the 2025-2026 school year range from 46.6 to 66.5 million VND, with the highest tuition fees for Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy.

One of the school's admission requirements is that candidates must have a full-time university degree in 2025, in a field of study consistent with the major they are applying for, with a good grade or higher, and must not retake the graduation exam.

Students studying postgraduate training programs at training institutions are not allowed to submit application for the exam.

To take the exam for the Residency Program of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2025, the required condition is that the doctor is under 27 years old, has a regular medical degree and takes the specialized subjects as prescribed, with 2 general subjects: Foreign Language and Comprehensive Exam (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics).

For Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, tuition fees for the 2025-2026 school year have not been announced, but in the 2024-2025 school year, tuition fees for the residency program are 63 million VND/school year.

This year, the school is enrolling 11 resident medical majors. The entry requirements are full-time general practitioners, graduating in 2025 and achieving a good grade or higher.

During the 6 years of university, candidates must not have received disciplinary action from warning or above, and must not have had their studies suspended. Candidates who graduate with excellent grades (average score of 9 or above) and meet the requirements will be considered for exemption from the entrance exam.

Candidates will take three general subjects (including Probability and Statistics; Foreign Language; comprehensive exam including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics) and two specialized subjects (Internal Medicine/Surgery/Obstetrics/Pediatrics).
