The election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term (the election) will take place on March 15, 2026.
At the conference, the National Election Council deployed Directive No. 46 of the Politburo on election leadership; guidance of the Central Organizing Committee on personnel work; and Directive of the Prime Minister on election organization.
Accordingly, Directive No. 46 of the Politburo requires Party committees and organizations at all levels to lead and direct the implementation of the following tasks: Fully prepare conditions for the successful organization of the election; ensure that the election is conducted democratically, equally, legally, safely, economically and truly a festival for all people; ensure the promotion of democracy associated with the Party's centralized and unified leadership in personnel work; not include in the list of candidates people who show signs of political opportunism, ambition for power, conservatism, factionalism, localism, and localism; subjects being inspected and examined for signs of violations, and have been concluded by competent authorities to be dishonest.
In addition, Directive 46 also requires the election of a sufficient number of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels, focusing on quality; ensuring a reasonable structure in terms of the number of deputies; strengthening propaganda and dissemination throughout the Party, the entire people and the entire army about the meaning and importance of the election; developing plans to ensure political security, order and social safety; promptly resolving complaints and denunciations in accordance with legal regulations; preventing all acts of taking advantage of democracy and violating election laws; having proactive plans to deal with unexpected situations, natural disasters and epidemics that may occur during the election period...
At the conference, delegates were guided through the process of negotiating, selecting, and introducing candidates for National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies, and organizing conferences to collect voters' opinions; election organization procedures; and the National Election Council's plan for implementing election work.

Speaking at the conference, General Secretary To Lam directed: For the election to go well, it is necessary to focus on preparing personnel work well, this is the most crucial step of the election and the introduction of candidates must be carried out publicly, transparently, with typical qualities and abilities, fully meeting the standards of the law; well organize consultation conferences at all levels to make a list of candidates in accordance with the law; each cadre and party member must enhance their exemplary pioneering role, not only voting fully and legally themselves but also mobilizing their families and relatives to participate in the election; ensure political security, social order and safety and promptly handle issues in the election; thoroughly resolve complaints and denunciations related to the election; strengthen the application of information technology and coordination between agencies and organizations in the entire political system to successfully organize the election.
General Secretary To Lam suggested: The National Assembly, the Government, Party agencies, and central organizations need to coordinate closely, strengthen guidance, inspection, and support for localities in election work to unify nationwide. Localities urgently establish election steering committees to comprehensively lead election work in the area, not to be passive and confused; clearly assign people, tasks, responsibilities, and completion time; regularly inspect, urge, grasp difficulties and obstacles, ensure progress and quality of work to best prepare conditions for a successful election.
