On June 6, 1941, Ho Chi Minh issued a “Call for solidarity for all elders”. He wrote: “The responsibility of our elders to the country’s mission is truly great.
The prosperous country is built by the elders. The country exists thanks to the elders' help. When the country is lost, the elders save it. When the country declines, the elders support it.
Ho Chi Minh's appeal is the summary of the heroic historical tradition forged through thousands of years of building and defending the nation. The elderly are always a steadfast intellectual and spiritual support for all social classes to follow.
The above event marked the beginning of Ho Chi Minh's ideological value regarding the role and great strength of the elderly, setting the premise for our Party to determine a unified viewpoint: the elderly are a social force with steadfast political mettle.
On that basis, deepen the Party's consistent viewpoint of always placing the position and role of the elderly at the center of social security policy, an important and valuable resource for the country's sustainable development.
On May 10, 1995, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was officially established, marking a turning point in its maturity. After 30 years of operation and development, up to now, the whole country has more than 9.7 million elderly members. The Association has been built quite sustainably from the central to the grassroots level, capable of undertaking the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly in all fields, always excellently completing the tasks assigned by the Party and the State.
The core objective of the work for the elderly is to implement 3 key tasks, 2 major work programs, along with the Government's assigned tasks on implementing the "Month of Action for the Elderly in Vietnam"; building an intergenerational self-help club.
The elderly have promoted the spirit of “Elderly people are good examples” in all fields. More than 7 million elderly people nationwide are entrepreneurs, businesses, owners of production and business establishments, participating in economic development, making effective and practical contributions to the development of the country, creating jobs for tens of millions of workers, over 400 thousand elderly people have achieved the title of good economic performers, contributing and mobilizing thousands of billions of VND for social security.
Nearly 700,000 elderly people are participating in the work of the Party, government, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, people's inspection, and grassroots mediation. Many elderly people have been honored as Labor Heroes in the renovation period, thousands of elderly people are elite intellectuals in research and training institutions, holding high positions in the Party and the State...
Every year, over 1 million elderly people are congratulated and celebrated with longevity; over 3 million elderly people have their health records established, over 4 million elderly people receive regular health check-ups, over 95% of elderly people have health insurance cards. Nationwide, there are nearly 80,000 clubs of all types, over 4,000 intergenerational self-help clubs, attracting millions of elderly people to participate... Many movements in coordination with organizations and sectors are implemented quite comprehensively and effectively.
The results of activities over the 30-year development journey, the elderly have contributed to the common development of the country, affirming their position, role and political mettle, deeply demonstrating the spirit of absolute loyalty to the Fatherland, following the Party and Uncle Ho to make revolution, contributing to building and firmly protecting the Fatherland of Vietnam.
In line with the movement of building and developing the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, the Tay Ninh Association of the Elderly, formerly the Representative Board of the Provincial Association of the Elderly, was established by the Provincial People's Committee in January 1999 (The Congress to establish the Provincial Association of the Elderly from October 2024). After 26 years of operation, up to now, the Association has developed throughout the country, including: the Provincial Association of the Elderly, 9/9 Associations of the Elderly in districts, towns and cities; 94/94 Associations of the Elderly in communes, wards and towns and 543 branches, over 3,830 association groups with 107,000 members out of a total of 130,000 elderly people.
From an organization that started with many difficulties, basically only doing well in organizing the Association. After 5 terms, up to now, the organization system of the Association of the Elderly in Tay Ninh province has really grown in both organization and emulation movements under the brand name "Old age - Bright example".
Outstanding in these emulation movements is the work of caring for the elderly in all three areas of health, spirit and material. Every year, the work of wishing and celebrating longevity for the elderly is well organized, with tens of thousands of elderly people of all ages benefiting. In particular, the Association at all levels does not leave out the elderly who are not celebrated; more than 60% of the elderly receive primary health care; over 95% of the elderly have health insurance.
Every year, thousands of elderly people receive free eye surgery; hundreds of billions of VND are mobilized by the Association at all levels to care for elderly people in difficult circumstances, lonely elderly people without support; over 500 clubs of all types are built and operated to help the elderly have a playground, exercise, and participate in cultural and artistic activities.
Activities to promote the role of the elderly have been strongly promoted in 3 movements: The elderly participate in building the political system with nearly 11,000 elderly people participating in the work of the Party, government, Front, unions and self-management groups, reconciliation committees...
In the field of national security protection, the elderly participate and coordinate with the local police to widely propagate to the elderly and local people about the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, contributing to stabilizing social order and safety.
In particular, the elderly play a key role in local mediation, educating their children, grandchildren, and family members to obey the law, providing valuable information to the police, and participating in economic development, hunger eradication, and poverty reduction.
More than 1,000 elderly people own businesses, production and trading establishments, creating jobs for thousands of workers, contributing tens of billions of VND to social security; mobilizing the construction of nearly 100 houses named "Home for the Elderly"; elderly people participate in donating tens of thousands of square meters of land for road construction and public works.
Through the emulation movements "Old age - Bright example", many exemplary elderly people have appeared, many excellent collectives in the movements have been awarded the Second and Third Class Labor Medals by the State; the Prime Minister has awarded certificates of merit, and central ministries, branches , and People's Committees have awarded many certificates of merit and certificates of merit.
The 30th anniversary of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the 26th anniversary of the Tay Ninh Association of the Elderly is an opportunity for us to look back at the process of building and growing the Association, the important contributions of the elderly to the overall development of the country and to appreciate the previous generations even more. Today's generation continues to follow the shining examples, learn and preserve the good achievements of the Vietnam Elderly.
