Provincial Association of the Blind: Celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam Association of the Blind

(QBĐT) - On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Association of the Blind (VNA) (April 17, 1969 - April 17, 2024), on April 16, the provincial VNA organized a ceremony to review traditions and a sports competition for members.

Awarding certificates of merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Blind Association to groups with outstanding achievements in the association's movement.

55 years ago, HNM Vietnam was established with 100 members. Up to now, the association has a tight organization system from the central to local levels with 72,714 members. The association currently manages 384 establishments and many service groups with more than 4,000 workers from handicrafts, stationery, wooden furniture, acupressure massage... The association is managing a loan capital of more than 52 billion VND through the central channel, over 18 billion VND through the local channel.

In Quang Binh , in 2000, the provincial HNM was established. Up to now, 8/8 districts, towns and cities have organized the association with 48 branches, 5 commune-level associations, 19 association groups, and nearly 1,500 members.

Over the past time, the association has opened hundreds of vocational training classes, dozens of Braille literacy and rehabilitation classes, and provided loans to create jobs; established more than 104 projects with a loan turnover of more than 5.3 billion VND, lending to 837 students. Thanks to loans combined with diligence, creativity, and hard work, many blind people have overcome hunger and reduced poverty. Up to now, the poverty rate in the association has decreased from 72% (in 2000) to 18.4%.

Regarding the care of the lives of members, the provincial HNM has coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee at all levels and socio-political organizations to build 63 "Great Unity" houses and repair nearly 100 houses for members. Over 100 members are working at massage parlors with an income of 3.5-4.5 million VND/person/month. In addition, the association also has 5 groups making bamboo toothpicks and brooms, creating seasonal jobs for many workers.

In the coming time, the provincial HNM will continue to unite, overcome difficulties, build the association to develop stronger and stronger; help the visually impaired affirm their will and strive to rise up in life.

At the ceremony, many collectives and individuals of the Association at all levels were awarded certificates of merit by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of Women and the Provincial Association of Women for their outstanding achievements in the association movement.

On this occasion, the provincial HNM organized a sports competition including: Stick pushing, sack jumping, push-ups to create a playground for students to meet, exchange, practice physical and mental health to continue to live happily, healthily, and usefully.
