Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh chaired the Workshop; Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission Phan Xuan Thuy and Chairman of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association Nguyen Minh Hong co-chaired the Workshop.
Workshop "Improving the law for the development of the press in the digital age"
Attending the workshop were Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society Trieu The Hung; General Director of Vietnam Television Nguyen Thanh Lam; Deputy General Director of Voice of Vietnam Pham Manh Hung; Deputy General Director of Vietnam News Agency Nguyen Thi Su.
The workshop was also attended by leaders of departments and offices of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of the Press Department of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission; leaders of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association and a number of Editors-in-Chief and Deputy Editors-in-Chief of central and local press agencies.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Phan Xuan Thuy said that amending and supplementing the Press Law is extremely necessary to perfect legal regulations to institutionalize the Party's guidelines and policies on the press; and overcome limitations and inadequacies in current legal regulations on the press.
Along with that, the amendment and supplementation of the Press Law aims to regulate and manage press activities appropriately in the context of the strong and rapid development of science , technology, and modern communications, creating a legal corridor for press activities to develop in the digital age.
Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Phan Xuan Thuy delivered the opening speech at the Workshop.
At the workshop "Improving the law for press development in the digital age", representatives of ministries, departments, branches, National Assembly deputies, leaders of central and Hanoi press agencies, media experts, journalists, scientists, lawyers... will focus on discussing 3 major contents:
Firstly, in the context of streamlining and streamlining press agencies, how to build a model of a press and media complex to promote efficiency and sustainable development? Developing a model of a press complex, international experience.
Second, how to link the activities of press agencies to promote social resources to develop press agencies?
Third, the press is increasingly competing fiercely with social networks and cross-border platforms in terms of speed and extent of information dissemination. In what direction should legal regulations be improved so that press agencies can compete for information, orient and lead information in cyberspace?
The workshop aims to collect comments on improving the legal system, propose specific regulations, and contribute to the drafting of the Press Law (amended) before submitting it to the Government and the National Assembly for consideration and approval. The workshop takes place in a special context to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).
The leaders of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission expressed their hope that the Workshop would receive contributions from delegates to complete the draft Press Law (amended), creating a legal corridor for press activities to develop in the digital age.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Portal will continue to update the content of the Workshop.
