On the side of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, there were: Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh, Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; scientists, experts, and researchers from research institutions inside and outside the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.
The Workshop on Development of the Northern Border Region of Vietnam is currently an activity within the framework of the Ministry-level Key Program "Overall research on the Northern Border Region in Vietnam to contribute to socio-economic development and ensure security and politics in the current conditions" chaired by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. This is a forum for scientists, policy makers, and delegates to share research results, discuss, and exchange views related to the development of the Northern Border Region in a comprehensive, effective, and sustainable manner.
The presentations of experts and researchers inside and outside the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences focused on topics such as: economic, trade, industrial and tourism development in border areas; human development in border areas in terms of livelihood innovation, poverty reduction, preservation and promotion of traditional cultural heritages; Environmental security in terms of environmental protection and response to natural disasters and policy and legal issues for land border development in the Northern region.
Leaders of some departments, branches and localities of Lao Cai province spoke at the workshop. Specifically, at the workshop, delegates discussed a number of theoretical issues on environmental security in the land border area contributing to socio-economic development and ensuring political security; a number of issues on the border development strategy of China's Yunnan and Guangxi regions in recent years and their impact on the development of the Vietnam-China border area; practical trade in the northern border market, problems and solutions...
Speaking at the workshop, comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, hoped that scientists would continue to research and clarify opportunities, challenges, and development directions to advise the Party and State on policies to help localities, including Lao Cai, develop quickly and sustainably in the new era.
The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee emphasized: In the coming period, Lao Cai will focus on implementing 5 key tasks: Building Lao Cai into a growth pole, a center for economic trade connection between Vietnam and ASEAN countries with the Southwest region - China; ensuring national defense and security as a constant priority, not creating hot spots, not being passive or surprised; strengthening foreign affairs activities so that foreign affairs truly become a great resource for socio-economic development, ensuring the environment...
In addition, he suggested that the research team propose to the central ministries and branches to pay attention to and report to the National Assembly and the Government 4 groups of policies on developing connecting transport infrastructure and digital infrastructure, developing border gate economy, managing and developing forest resources, water resources and social security policies.
Speaking at the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Chu Van Tuan, Director of the Institute of Religious Studies, Head of the Border Program, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Head of the Ministry-level Key Program "Overall research on the land border area in Vietnam contributes to socio-economic development and ensuring security and politics in the current conditions" affirmed that correctly, fully and promptly identifying the current situation and better understanding the nature of emerging issues, forecasting development trends and assessing the impact factors in the northern border area of our country today have important scientific significance and practical value, contributing to ensuring security, politics, stability and sustainable development of the country in general. The contributions and discussions at the workshop have contributed significantly to providing theoretical and practical bases, important solutions and policy recommendations, contributing to the successful implementation of the key program.
