A week ago, due to heavy rain in the North for many days, the amount of water flowing from upstream was so large that the flow rate was too high to ensure the operation of the pontoon bridge.
On June 11, Brigade 249, the Engineer Corps conducted an emergency bridge cut due to the strong flow of the Red River and the large amount of garbage dumped on the bridge to ensure safety for people traveling across the bridge.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tu, cutting the pontoon bridge was part of the plan when the Red River water rose to avoid any incidents.
''The amount of garbage on the river is very large, the unit is having to concentrate officers, soldiers and vehicles to collect the garbage, ensuring the safety of the bridge. When the water flow is below 3mm/s, the unit will reconnect the pontoon bridge", informed Lieutenant Colonel Tu.
After the collapse of Phong Chau Bridge ( Phu Tho ) due to the impact of super typhoon Yagi last year, a temporary pontoon bridge was installed to meet the travel needs of the people. However, due to the rising water level of the Red River flowing through Lam Thao and Tam Nong districts (Phu Tho province), the water flows rapidly, posing many potential safety risks for people participating in traffic through this pontoon bridge area.
In order to minimize risks, authorities have deployed a series of warning measures. At both ends of the Phong Chau pontoon bridge, many warning signs have been erected, reminding people to be careful when crossing the river in adverse weather conditions.
According to the plan, the new Phong Chau bridge is being urgently constructed and is expected to be closed in September and open to traffic by the end of this year. While waiting for the new bridge to be completed, the authorities will remain on duty, closely monitoring the weather and water flow to ensure absolute safety for people traveling by pontoon bridge and military vehicles.
