More than 250 people attended the rally in response to World No Tobacco Day.

BTO-On the morning of May 30, the Department of Health of Binh Thuan province organized a rally and parade in response to "World No Tobacco Day May 31" and "National No Tobacco Week" (May 25-31, 2025), attracting the participation of more than 250 delegates from departments, branches, sectors, and students in the province.

The World No Tobacco Day 2025 theme “Exposing the False Appeal” was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) to condemn the strategies of tobacco corporations to deceive consumers. By promoting false information, these businesses make people, especially young people, mistakenly believe that cigarettes are less harmful or even harmless. From there, they expand the consumer market.

Speaking at the rally, Dr. Le Van Hong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Health, emphasized: With this year's theme, the provincial health sector hopes that people will raise awareness of the sophisticated tricks that the tobacco industry is using to attract consumers. From there, each individual will join hands to protect public health, especially the younger generation, from addictive products such as traditional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco.

In Vietnam, tobacco is still the leading cause of death and disease. It is estimated that each year, about 104,300 people die from tobacco-related diseases, including 18,800 cases due to passive smoking. The economic loss caused by tobacco amounts to more than 108 trillion VND each year - 5 times higher than the revenue from tobacco tax. That is the report of the Ministry of Health . Tobacco harm prevention (PCTHTL) in Binh Thuan has recorded many positive changes. Units and localities have established a Steering Committee for PCTHTL. No-smoking signs are posted in many agencies, schools, medical facilities, and public transport. Along with that, the models of "smoke-free workplaces" and "smoke-free schools" have been deployed and expanded.

Immediately after the rally, youth union members marched through the main streets of Phan Thiet City. The slogans “Vietnamese youth comply with regulations prohibiting the use of electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products”, “Quit smoking to set a good example for your children”… aimed to promote the harmful effects of tobacco in the community, calling on people to take concrete actions for a smoke-free living environment.
