The Government assigned Kien Giang province to select investors to expand Phu Quoc airport.

In Resolution No. 01 recently issued, the Government agreed to invest in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport to serve the 2027 APEC Conference in the form of business investment prescribed in the Investment Law.

Accordingly, the Government assigned the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to select domestic investors and organize the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport to ensure it is suitable for the nature of a joint civil-military airport as proposed by the People's Committee of Kien Giang province.

The Resolution clearly states that the Government has delegated authority to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to approve investment policies and adjust investment policies for the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion investment project; the order and procedures for approving investment policies and adjusting implementation policies are similar to projects under the investment policy approval authority of the provincial People's Committee according to the provisions of the law on investment.

At the same time, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province has the authority to organize the appraisal and decide to approve the appraisal results of the environmental impact assessment report for the project; organize the appraisal, approval of the design and acceptance of fire prevention and fighting for construction items of the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion investment project.

The Government also agreed to recover and transfer the state-invested and managed infrastructure assets of Phu Quoc International Airport from the Ministry of Construction to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province.

In particular, the transfer of infrastructure assets of Phu Quoc International Airport to local management does not apply to assets managed by Airports Corporation - JSC (ACV) built on defense and security land, land managed by the military (if any) according to the planning approved by the Ministry of Construction.

In particular, the Government assigned the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to make a list of infrastructure assets currently managed by ACV; issue a decision to recover and transfer infrastructure assets of Phu Quoc International Airport invested by the State to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to implement the investment project to expand Phu Quoc International Airport to serve the APEC Conference 2027.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province does not make payment of asset value to the Ministry of Construction when transferring assets to local management and handling.

The Government also requested the Provincial People's Committee to organize the reception of Phu Quoc International Airport infrastructure assets invested and managed by the State to manage, handle and implement the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion investment project in accordance with procedures and regulations.
