On March 1, according to Variety , the organizers of the Asian Film Festival announced that the martial arts film star was honored at the awards ceremony for his contributions to cinema. Sammo Hung said in a press release: "I am very happy and surprised to win awards at this age. This award also has a special meaning, affirming my entire acting career."

Sammo Hung was born in 1952 and joined Yu Zhanyuan's Peking Opera School at the age of 10. During this period, in addition to practicing acting and martial arts, Sammo Hung acted in several movies. From the age of 18, he became a Dragon Tiger Martial Artist - a stuntman for dangerous scenes.

During his 60 years in the profession, he tried his hand at many positions such as actor, action choreographer, director and producer. Sammo Hung made his mark with many action-comedy projects such as The Legend of Fuyao, The Seven Little Fortunes... In 1982, Sammo Hung won the Best Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards for the film Beware of Thieves - a project he directed.

In recent years, Sammo Hung has been absent from events, spending time recuperating due to many illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. His wife, Ms. Gao Lihong, closely monitors her husband's diet, forcing him to eat a light diet to maintain his health. In 2022, he returned to the screen with a guest role in Border Walker, co-starring with Simon Yam and Ng Cheuk-hee.

The Asian Film Festival, organized by the Asian Film Awards Academy, was first launched in 2007 in Hong Kong and attracted more than 4,000 guests from many countries. The event aims to honor the most resounding film projects of production teams in the Asian region during the year. Many winning projects at the festival such as The Host (2006), A Separation (2011), Parasite (2019) ... have won many other major international awards.

Sammo Hung: 'When I was young, I was miserable but happy'

Hong Kong martial arts star Sammo Hung made a film about his childhood practicing martial arts, saying it was hard but had many beautiful memories.

The artist is about to release the film Septet: The Story of Hong Kong, as director and screenwriter. The script is inspired by Sammo Hung's childhood in a Peking Opera troupe, where he practiced martial arts every day.

On Mpweekly, the actor said that his living environment in the 1950s was harsh. Children like Sammo Hung learned martial arts from dawn to dusk, regardless of the scorching sun or heavy rain. His master, Master Yu Jim Yuen,disciplined his students with whips. The artist was once kicked high in the air by his master, then fell to the ground.

Sammo Hung said those days were hard but also filled with joy. "Now that I think back, I realize that my master left me with beautiful memories and valuable lessons. Thanks to him, I love Peking Opera and martial arts and can live with passion."

Sammo Hung made the film in the hope of breathing new life into Hong Kong's traditional arts. He invited his son, Hung Tin-ming, to play martial artist Yu Jim-yuen in the film. Hung Tin-ming said that through participating in the film, he could feel the hardships his father had endured as a child. The actor said: "My father's current achievements are partly due to his martial arts skills, and partly due to the strong will that he had cultivated since childhood."

In the 1970s, thanks to his knowledge of Taekwondo and Wing Chun, Sammo Hung designed the action for many Golden Harvest films. Since 1977, he began playing leading roles, successfully through many films such as The Way of the Fat Dragon, The Little Family, Beware of Thieves, My Lucky Stars, Seven Little Fortunes... From the 2000s to the present, Sammo Hung has starred in famous works such as The Legend of Fuyao, Ip Man, The Empress...
