At the press conference, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Thi Hoang Mai emphasized: Children are the future owners of the country, so taking care of their spiritual life, creating a cultural space and a healthy playground is a common responsibility of the whole society. The puppet show "The Swans" is one of the practical efforts of the Hai Phong cultural sector to bring performing arts closer to children who are in great need of attention, love and spiritual nourishment. The Director of the Department also highly appreciated the creativity, urgency and enthusiasm of the artists of the Hai Phong Traditional Theater in implementing the program. In addition, the Director of the Department called on organizations, businesses and philanthropists to continue to accompany so that art is not only a gift of entertainment but also becomes a means of inspiring positive living for children, especially children in difficult circumstances.
The puppet show “The Swans” revolves around the brave journey of a little girl named Eliza through the deep, dark and dangerous forest to save her brothers who have been turned into swans. The work promotes courage, family affection, sacrifice and love for family - human values that need to be nurtured early in the young generation.
In addition to the touching content, the puppet show is staged in a modern style, harmoniously combining traditional puppetry with advanced stage techniques: sound, light, character creation and cinematic storytelling. This helps children not only enjoy the art but also develop their emotions, imagination and aesthetics.
Sharing his feelings when directing this puppet show, People's Artist Nguyen Tien Dung - Director of the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre expressed: "The Swans" will be an opportunity for children to be exposed to cultural values, learn how to live humanely, persevere, and develop visual - emotional - aesthetic thinking in a safe and humane environment. People's Artist Nguyen Tien Dung hopes that the show will be well received by many audiences, from children to adults, with a practical message. At the same time, he hopes that the City Theatre will become an annual performance venue, contributing to the development of children's arts.
A highlight of the program is the call from the Organizing Committee to mobilize sponsors to sponsor free performances for children in difficult circumstances, especially children at Hoa Phuong Children's School and SOS Children's Village Hai Phong.
Director of Hai Phong Traditional Theater Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy said: “We hope that the play is not only for the average young audience, but also a special spiritual gift to the less fortunate children so that they can live in a world of hope, courage and love. The Swans is not simply an art performance but also a door opening to a magical world, where every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the right to dream, to be inspired and to live their childhood to the fullest.”
According to the announced schedule, the performances of “The Swans” will be continuously lit up in the summer of 2025, serving the city’s children and tourists at the City Theater stage from June 12 to August 31, 2025. The play features leading names in the theater industry: author Hoang May, director People’s Artist Nguyen Tien Dung, puppet designers People’s Artist La Viet Sinh, People’s Artist Vuong Loi, music by musician Tuan Nghia, and a team of experienced artists from the Hai Phong Traditional Theater./.
